I have this 1984 VF750F with 35,000 miles and a VF700F tank in perfect shape. I bought the tank NOS last year, as my original tank was completely rusted out and I got tired of soldering it. So, it runs fine. It is OLD SCHOOL, so I really don't enjoy riding it with the crap suspension and the crap bias-ply tires (original 16" up front). Of course, I spend all of my riding time on my 2004 VFR, which I REALLY enjoy. My quandary - should I sell the 1984 bike or complete the mods I had planned? I already have a modded F4i shock with new springs to mount, as well as a F2 rear wheel. To complete all this I would need to make/buy spacers for the rear caliper, buy a new front wheel & put a new speedo gear in it, and buy new tires. OK, that last bit - if I were to keep it I would need tires anyhow. BUT it's a 1984 bike - weak cam chain tensioners and the dreaded pitting cams (although mine look OK). What should I do? Opinions?
Sell your parts and the bike separate. Youll end up with more bucks that way. BTW I used to have one of those - a 700 Sabre......One day there was a big "CRACK!" sound out of the engine and the thing was dead. Damn near gave it away. It was nice when it ran right, but mostly the thing was a headache. MD
mello dude, I think you are giving me very good advice. I could sell the wheel and shock separately on eBay and sell the bike and be done with it! I don't need the headaches! It really doesn't make a very good second bike for me anyhow. Time for something else - like a supermotard . . . .
