The same could be said of the seats that were reviewed.

When Mike Corbin was running the show instead of the bean counters, one could have input on the purchase or construction of a seat. The bean counters took over and currently it's business as usual. Sweatshop immigrant labor and materials made in China.

Corbin or Sergeant? It's a tossup as you can see:

I've got shorter legs, how do the Corbin and Sargent seats compare height-wise to the stock seat?

I had my wife sit on both the sargent and the stock seat and she is 5'7 and she could flatfoot both the sargent and the stock seat. She never sat on the Corbin. She said it was about the same as far as she could tell on the other two, though.

Some time has past, are there any updates on the sargent seats. MC Superstore has them on sale 10% off. $363 for 6G. I may jump in. I am 6'2" and 255# (six pack turned into 1/2 barrel long ago) Any additional comments from the more full figured riders? Is red piping the way to go for '07 RWB or just plain black?

actually not in the way I meant it. For example, if you mod your stock seat and it didn't work out, you have no stock seat to fall back on. Most everyone who has a Corbin or Sargent still has a stock seat that works just fine if they hate the Sargent or Corbin.

try PMing Silver Surfer. He's a bigger guy, and I think he got a Sargent seat a while back.

Hmmmmm... I don't think I saw anyone mention Bill Mayer saddles. Here's a link to the pic on his website. When you order a Bill Mayer saddle he requires you to take pictures of you, or you and your passenger on the bike, so he knows what densities of foam to use and how to contour the seat properly for your personal use. He also prefers the rider in both sitting and tuck poses so he can better contour the seat for both situations. I had one on my Yamaha 2003 FZ-1 and it was fantastic. He builds custom seats that win Iron Butt competitions and endorsements.

Wow, I can't believe I just saw this... I love my Sargent seat way over the stock plank. It supports very well and with over 10,000 miles on it, it still holds its shape even with my "large member" ass on it.

Reg: Thanks for the gentle reminder that I should be doing the x90 work out with you! :ass:

Great job on the review. I have a Sargent on my '02 and it is great. It is the one piece and the cowl WILL fit. But it does leave a mark so I don't use it. I have Corbins on my other bike - a single seat and a dual seat and they are also great but very heavy.
The Corbin's are mostly made with leather which is nice but you really should't get them wet. They offer vinyl too, so if you ride a lot in the rain you should not get leather,
A really handy feature of the Sargent is the little "stash" pocket built in.
Really they are both good. I would buy based on price.

Hmmm, maybe Krispy can find Mr. Mayers shop and give us a review. Ojai is just up the road from Santa Barbara. A few miles North of that so long as it's plug time. Google up "Rich's motorcycle seats" Rich needs to see your butt and he rides Iron Butt. Me BumbleBeemer is on his site under vintage and me 91 VFRF is in the pix section. Both are by Rich.

All kidding aside, it's about ergo's. Trips to Wally's can be done sitting on a 2X4 if duty calls. Longer hauls need to be studied. More plug..Rich does the cabins of boats like the Miss Bud. Just sitting in that puppy will wake ya up.

After seeing your post, I contacted them with an offer to review one of their seats and update the comparo, but he had no interest. He mentioned that his seats are well known in the FJR world and that he sold 100 seats in a group buy to them. That's a pretty good testimonial right there, but it doesn't help you guys riding VFRs to know how they ride, though. Sorry. Guess you'll have to stick with Corbin or Sargent. Let's face it, though, you really can't go wrong with either one.

reg71 - I would not have a problem ordering from him at all. In my post I mention I had one of his saddles on my 2003 FZ-1. I know how it would sit and would have no fear of ordering another from him whatsoever. Unfortunately I don't need to order another seat since I am satisfied with the stock one. I have not done a 500 mile ride in over 3 years. The stock seat, to me, is comfortable past the 200 mile mark, or next fill-up. Then I stretch out for a few minutes and I am good for another 200 if needed. I was merely adding my opinion and an alternative option to Corbin and Sargent. There's also the Russel Day-Long saddle, but I do not have experience with that model.

Another option less used or thought about is for you to approach your local furniture upholsterer to modify the stock pan. I have had a few seats adjusted by a local upholstery before with great result. And that is a cheap option usually costing about $40-$70, depending on the mod.

I had a Meyer seat on my BMW K1200RS as well as a Sargent. Although the Meyer seat was made by his dad before he passed away a few years back (neat guy, I rode to his shop to have mine done), so I don't know if they would be different. The Meyer was indeed much more comfy than stock, really a big difference in comfort. But it was also kind of ugly and wide. The Sargent was better than stock, but not even close for long run comfort, short runs were about the same. I kept both, for day to day riding, or anything sporty, I would use the Sargent, as it looked better. For longer runs, I would put the Meyer on. More comfy, but ugly and harder to hang off the seat at all.

for the current VFR, I have tried the Corbin and the Sargent, sold the Corbin on EBay, run with just the Sargent.

Just wanted to throw in an update to the Comparo, ordered a Sargent from Sandhill who I'll NEVER order from again (10 day order turned into 2 1/2 month's of Hell & BS). Long story short put 3500 miles on it so far and love it, the only thing I can say is that the seats kind of sticky so it locks you in, as far as the passenger my daughter 5'6" and I think 100 to 120 lbs (not sure and not going to ask) she said it way more comfortable on the couple of short runs she's been on (100 miles or less).

My Sargent seat just arrived the other day via UPS. Ordered it from the Motorcycle Superstore... no problem at all re: ordering & delivery. Only took a few days from the time I placed the order.w
Taking the bike out of storage on Wednesday, & I'm not working Thursday...looking forward to my first ride o' the year & trying out the new seat.

Well I've been out several times with the new Sargent seat.

Yes it's better than the stock seat, but I can't say that I notice a huge, dramatic difference. It's true you're not sliding into the tank as much as with the stock seat, though it doesn't seem like such a great difference.

The passenger part certainly seems more comfortable.

The thing I like most about it is it's looks...love the red trim, goes well with the bike which is black.

Me arse must be going through some changes. I've put thousands of miles on my Sargent seat, but lately it hurts right below my cheeks at the top of my legs. The seat edges seem to cut into me there. I'll put my seat pad back on and see if that helps, but it raises me up a bit higher, of which I'm not real fond. I'll also put my Corbin on and see if it makes a difference for the better. Might even try my OEM seat (I only ever used it for about 100 miles total). I have a lot of rides planned for this year and I want me arse to be in a happy place.

Great info on the seats and thanks for the comparison. I had the Corbin on my '02 VFR and liked it a lot. It was pretty stiff at first but after a few hundred miles it seemed to break in and worked well for me. I liked the perforated leather and it held up very well for the 15K miles I owned the bike. I then traded it for an '04 CBR1000RR and now after having gotten that bike out of my system I recenlty went back to a "kinder'gentler" bike and bought a new 2007 VFR. It's the burgandy color and I really like being back on the VFR...let's me kick it up a notch in the twistees and still take the longer, back road rides that I so enjoy! Anyway, sorry for straying, but I have a question about the Sargent...is it available in leather or only in the vinyl and can you set up the rear portion to carry things under the cowl - or is it a pain to remove/replace it during a ride? I currenly have a small (child's size) backpack that I strap to the rear pillon and carry bottled water, etc....would the undercowl storage on the Sargent be able to accomodate this kind of storage?

Hotlap, I have a 2007 RWB and just added the Sargeant seat. It uses basicly the same seat pan as the original. A small compartment is provided but does not provide much additional storage. The compartment is semi-circular and maybe 2"x3"x5". Not much additional room.
