Cool that you're starting out on a 500. I'm 46 and bought my VFR800 last Feb. I hadn't ridden for 25 years and it took a while to get used to it again but I've never ridden anything smaller than a 750 on the street. So, it came back fast. I don't strafe corners like the young guys but that's okay. I'll take my time and enjoy it and the pace will pick up later.

    Good luck and ride safe.

I am sorry to hear you lost your best riding buddy! :frown: That is really horrible....

My wife will not ride with me, however our relationship is amazing and I hope to never lose my little buddy!

I've aged quite a bit just since this thread started! It's a good one, though!

I just turned 61 this past October an been riding off an on since high school. I've got an 06 and have had it now almost 2 years, and love it. It's prob the best bike I've owned. I've not had many tho, it's only the 4th in 38 yrs. of riding. An old friend of mine and I took a trip to Deals Gap this past May and stayed for a week, you're never too old! Arthritis is taking it's toll on both hands and making riding more difficult but I aint givin up yet. If I have to I'll have surgery to keep on goin!

    Sorry to hear that, Crashy.
She still goes out with you everytime you ride...

You are right about the thinking part.

My 06 is the 4th motorcycle in 40 yrs and by far the best, I just turned 61 in Oct. I've always loved sport bikes. People ask me why I don't ride a Harley or a big cruiser and I reply I just can't manage to stay awake on one of those things! I like the butterflies in my stomach before each ride cause you gotta stay on your toes! An once your out, give er hell! Love em, jus love em!

I had my first bike, a 500, for a couple thousand miles before trading up to a '99 VFR. I've never regretted it. Find a good clean model and it will go forever. I've put 60K miles on mine in 9 years.

I guess this makes me an exception of sorts cuz I'm 24 and on my 2nd VFR :p I can't see myself loving any other bike like I love my VFR. Though, when I have the money to afford a rocket for the occasional 1 hour blast/track day, the new R1 has my attention...it sounds like a VFR!

    53 and still at it!

    is 53 old????
    I recon if i ride a vfr i should---
    Look 30
    Feel 30
    wanna be 30
But with a zimmer frame looming one day, belly growing daily, other parts getting smaller maybe--

If i can slide over my VFR and all i have to do is twist my wrist, rest my belly on the tank, keep getting vibrations in other parts, maybe i can stiill fool myself-
    i`m 30 ish?
My g/f says i look so young when mounted on my bike and wants me to ride as much as i can-so-
Is she checking the life insurance?-- or just happy that with my growing belly she like me getting thrills from my throbing V4?
thinking)))) if i remove one plug lead , will it vibrate more????

Got that with the raising bars. ended up with spacers AND helibars. Can ride nonstop (except gas stops) most all day now. My kid (23) and I (63) are going to do a ride this spring/summer for Ironbutt. When i was 19, I rode a Yamaha trail 55 nonstop from Colo to NY, but got no documentation after all those years. Dumb young and strong......

Nope - old is a state of mind. I bet there's not a man or woman alive who doesn't still have an adolescent alive somewhere in the back of their mind. Maybe locked away in some cases, but still there. Mine is permitted to be in charge far too much of the time, according to some.......the answer is not to listen to them.
Men see what they want, marry her, and she changes, much to their dismay. Women see what they want to change him into, and frequently he isn't able to.......Doh!

Not necessarily......I got given a chance to ride a Manx racer when I was 12....it wasn't my dad's - in fact he got sort of upset when he found out. I was only grounded until I turned 37, so, no biggie.

I said I was an older rider. I never said I was mature. I know my limitations.

I like to believe that I am mature as far as safety and risks go...
but the rest of my profile can be quite immature! I'm kinda proud of that...it means that I still have lots of fun and people value my contributions.
