Video cameras aren't going to do a good exhaust justice, they don't have very good microphones. I'm going to try to record my '86 VFR700 with supertrapps one of these weekends with a decent microphone (and measure how loud it is with an SPL meter while I'm at it).

    YouTube - RVF 750R RC 45 Sound
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeelh4KMLxc

has any one noticed that the vfr1200 and rc45 sound very similar minus the cam gears?
    i think the vfr800 has a 180* crankshaft and the rc45 has a 360* crank right?
so maybe the reason the vfr1200 sounds much more different than the vfr800 is because it has a 360 degree crank....
    any input?

I can't say enough about how stoked I am about this exhaust! The vespa/moped tone from the Star-Trek-reject pipe was embarrassing. It was a little better after the servo opened the valve in the exhaust, but I couldn't get over the look/sound. Now the bike sounds as exotic as it looks. I get people stopping me to ask about what kind of bike/engine it is. The V4 sound really is unlike anything else; as distinctive as the Ducati dry clutch chatter.

I love the way the bike looks with the TBR pipe! Two CHP motors have stopped me already, admitting they just wanted to check out the bike. Everybody that has seen it loves the carbon fiber and how it sounds. The proportions of the bike look balanced now, from the side and the rear views.

TBR will have a Juice Box unit ready soon with fuel maps specific to the 1200 and this exhaust. I'll put it on as soon as available. I'm sure the HP gains will be even better than the 5 extra gained from the pipe.

Nice ^ I really want one probably next month. I just paid a year worth of VFR1200F insurance this month and no money left for a kick ass exhaust.

great video! super quality! but, i still dont really care for the sound though... oh well to each his own, as long as you like the the results thats all that matters.
looks like the bike is putting down some serious numbers.
almost 160 rwhp?! looks like about 155 huh?

Verrry nice. The mic still wasn't great for recording the bike... I gotta find a good mic for recording these..

I saw the 1200 at a dealer a week or so ago... The fit/finish is just stunning, and when seen from a normal viewing angle, the headlight no longer dominates the front of the bike. The visual weight balance front/rear is still heavy on the front, but not much to do about that.

Ok, I finally got off my butt and went down to the garage with the recording equipment:

    MacBook Pro
Edirol FA-66 FireWire 6-channel Audio Interface
    Behringer ECM-8000 microphone

VFR700F SuperTrapps - VFRworld Photo Gallery

Raw, uncompressed audio.. as it should be. :)

play this through your home stereo with a subwoofer, it'll rattle the house when you get it up to the right volumes.

I placed the microphone about 10' in front of the bike, pointed at it, with the bike at the door to the garage (facing in). Would have placed it behind the bike, but in the garage, that would have been WAY too loud. The mic won't clip until 130dB or so, and the reason I bumped it of the rev limiter was due to trying to keep an eye on the maximum volume to make sure I didn't clip the mic pre-amp or the D/A converter.

If people can play it, and it sounds good, I can meet up with people in the SF South Bay (SCruz to Palo Alto or so) and record their bikes. I'd LOVE to hear a VFR1200F, especially with the TBR exhaust. I have a feeling it's got a lot more low-frequency content than the YouTube video makes it sound. They used a great camera to film it, but a crap mic that was completely overwhelmed by the volume of the bike in the enclosed space of the dyno room. The drive-by sounded MUCH better, but still lacked any low-end at all, which was probably the mic on the camcorder just not picking it up.

The ECM-8000 I have is good down to 10Hz, and flat from 20Hz on up.

    ***

EDIT: After listening through good headphones, you can still hear the echo of it being in the garage, so I'm going to redo this again out doors somewhere.

It's not playing for me. Just gives a thumbnail that says "Waiting for video." What format is it in? I'd love for you to come up and record my bike. I've contemplated starting it up with the stock can, sliding that off and then sliding the staintune on so that a real-time comparison can be made. Doing so with a real microphone would be awesome.

It should be in WAV format. Which browser/os are you using? On a mac, it won't play in the browser with either Chrome or Firefox, but does play in Safari.

acerboo's vid has been posted on You Tube. I added a link to it in the first post on the first page. Thanks acerboo. I shorten the vid just a bit as I was unsure how what file size limitations there were. Originally was going to upload to Photobucket, but changed my mind and put it on You Tube.
