I need to make a run up to see my girlfriend in Burlington, VT. Truck is dead, Jeep won't make it, so the bike it is. It's approx 400 miles each way, mainly highway. I need a cruise control cause my arm/wrist/hand WILL get sore. I had a neat little thing on my Nighthawk. It was on the inside of the throttle handle. When on the highway, I would literally just push it somewhat up and forward to lock it into place. This would hold my throttle in position to work as a cruise control.

Does anyone have a recommendation on similar setup on my '98? I saw an inexpensive piece you push down but must keep in contact with it at all times. I need to get this ordered and on the bike by this time next week!

Thanks in advance for the help.

P.S. I am averaging 150-180 miles to my tank, mainly around town driving. The PC II is programmed for full power and 93+ Octane. I am changing the spark plugs and the oil prior to leaving. Any idea how many miles I'll get out of my tank on this nearly all highway ride? I want to plan out any required stops. Thanks!

I've read (not experienced first hand, so not a whole lot of information) about putting a big O-Ring between the grip and the control housing to kind of "pin" the throttle to wherever you want. That would likely be the cheapest solution (<$1.00) if it works... Other than that, I'd probably just say Vista cruise but haven't used that myself either.

Try the NEP Throttle Lock. About 20 bucks. Installs in seconds. Although this is not a "cruise control" as you mentioned. It is what it is - a throttle lock.

I would think you should get 180-200 a tank if you're just slabbin it up there and reprogram your PC. Plan on making stops every 175-200 miles. At 80mph, that'll give you a little over 2 hours before you stop for a quick stretch, re-fuel, re-hydrate (especially if we have more of this 90+ weather), take a leak, etc.

At 400 miles, you'd be looking at about 2 or 3 stops, spread over 6 hours or so. Aside from the (boring) highway, it sounds like a decent day ride.

The throttle rocker works fine and is almost as cheap as the o-ring.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I ordered up the Vista as it's the only decent one (price-wise) that my local Honda dealer could order. I get special pricing so I figured why not. It will be here today actually.

Will do, man! Last summer I was down there almost every or every other weekend. This summer I only made it once and of course it was during a holiday weekend. It took me maybe an hour or so to get from the north side of Point Pleasant Beach south into Bay Head. That's normally a 2 minute cruise max. I was not happy.

Cool, if you're around any time before August 21, I can ride the VFR around with ya. After that, I won't have it any more so you'd have to ride with a guy on a cruiser ;) I'll be down in Seaside this weekend at my cousin's beach house I think.

Sounds good, man. My g/f comes back to PA for good around the week of the 15th which means no more trips to VT - plenty of trips down the shore (I hope). This weekend I'm doing a ton of photos for school (I'm obtaining my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography). No problem riding with the cruiser crowd. Most of my buddies (guys and girls) who ride have both a sport bike and a cruiser. If I had the cash, I'd be in the same boat as them. I'll definitely hit you up next time I head down that way.

Not to go off topic.. lol but I usually have my HD camera on my bike but only when on some scenic roads. I do typically have my good camera's with me, but not "on" the bike unless we're going somewhere for a shoot. I was doing shots yesterday for my photo class. My buddy had wrecked his Ducati (cosmetically) but said he'd take it out so I could get a few moving shots. Here's one of 'em:

I'm going to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh but they offer an online Bachelors of Photography. And trust me, it's not easy.. it's harder than on-ground stuff. I had no idea lol

It looks easy but that's my worry! lol. Those "20 minute" projects always seem to take 2-3 hours for me. I dunno what the deal is with that! I may not be taking the bike up to VT (that ride will suck if I do). My father has a spare care he may loan me for a few days. Would be nice since I am not real setup for a ton of luggage yet. I have a high mount Two Bro's exhaust so that limits saddle bags it seems.

I'm going to start a new poll to see if we should remove you from VFRWorld once the sale is complete.
