    Hi everyone,

Just joined yeseterday, thought I'd start out by introducing myself. I've had my '98 VFR 800Fi just about 3 weeks now, and couldn't be happier. After not having had a bike in almost 10 years (1989 Honda CB450SC Nighthawk) it's really nice to be riding again, and I've always wanted a VFR, so I'm smilin'

Looking forward to many good times on the bike and thanks for what looks like a great site.

Welcome! There are many others with 98's and 5gs here too. Join us! We (5g owners) are faster, better looking, smarter, more popular and just smell nice. Just ask any of the other Gen owners. They'll be catching up momentarily....

congrats. welcome to the group. you have bought the best model of the VFR ever made even if I do say so myself... ;) that year won several awards in magazines. nearly every review I read was positive on the 5th generation VFR...

Thanks for the welcome. I really just stumbled onto this particular bike by accident when I went to a friend's house for Thanksgiving and happened to see 2 bikes in the garage, one being the VFR, though at first I wasn't sure as it had black aftermarket plastic on the front end and sides. Bike belonged to her nephew and I just asked if he was willing to sell, since he had a new Kawasaki in there as well. Made him an offer after he told me a bit about the bike and a couple of weeks later it was mine.

So, I will be wanting to eventually replace or repaint the front end red to match the rest of the bike. Mechanically it runs perfectly and handles just as well ( I'm actually the weak link here since I'm getting back to riding after so long! ). He is a mechanic and did most of the work on the bike himself. Have an Erion pipe on, so in addition to that nice VFR sound theres a bit of a mean rumble to it as well, which I like.

I'll try to upload some pictures once I gan get a few good ones out of my camera phone.

    Phil

Welcome to the forum fellow desert rat. I too have the 98. We need to get a Southwest VFR meet going! There are more AZ viffer heads all the time. Enjoy the new ride and get as much enjoyable riding in before it turns 100! LOL.

I'll have to agree, 5G riders are always more intelligent, do you ever notice how the new members with 5G's always have it more together, here's deserman62 with two posts and he already has his profile updated and getting ready to post pics, it usually takes 4G riders a month to figure that out.

    BTW, :welcome:

Phil, very similar to my own story. I wasn't even looking at VFRs, but I ran into an ad
that listed one in my price range so I thought I'd take a look. It was actually a little more than I wanted to spend, but the prior owner took exceptional care of it so I got online and started researching the bike. I wound up here. I read averything I could find quickly and found almost all positive reviews. It had been a while since I had been on a bike (a few months at least) so I was kind of nervous. Within 3 months, I was ecstatic with the handling characteristics of the VFR. My confidence level got up and I became progressively more comfortable riding it. This bike made me fall in love with riding again. Enjoy.

Welcome! I have to agree with RW. I was busy doing some ......"Chinese Arithmatic" but thought I would reply. You see being a 5G myself I can handle posting while doing other things. Now I think I will take a break and solve world hunger.....?

Months to figure out? Hmm RW your so late to the table. LOL All I can say bout the 5g is Honda almost got it right, then they went and added linked brakes, Boo hisss and missed the opertuinty to give it great legs as in what the 900rr had, could have at the least used the F4I front end, sheeesh.. as I give criedt when due as at least the 800 engine is more to the liken of the RC45, that I give props to. Other wise eat my music, 4gs rock and RW knows it... as he's always behind me :)

I think I'm gonna like it here!

After such a long time without a bike, my comfort level is coming back. I haven't taken any extended rides yet, just up to Cave Creek / Carefree last Sunday, but that's not too far from my place. Basically wanted to just go to and from work until I felt more at ease. Funny thing, every time I get off work and head out the door I'm conscious of having to wipe the stupid grin off my face knowing my bike's out there waiting for me.

Glad to join the 5G brotherhood!

Your now part of a large and powerful group so use your power wisely. Here is a story of being part of the 5G brotherhood that saved a day of violence.

Me and my buddy who just happens to ride a 4G (RVFR) were in Los Angeles and accidentally took a wrong turn toward Compton and we ended up right in the middle of a gang war between the Crips and the Bloods, so here was me and my buddy thinking what have we just got our self into as the leaders was walking toward us with evil intentions, just before things started to get ugly, one of the leaders recognized I was on a 5g and stopped in his tracks, next thing out of his mouth was are you part of the 5G Brotherhood? I said well yes I am, as they gasped and backed off, they immediately turned their intentions on RVFR with his 4G and knocked his bike down which really didn't hurt the looks of it, because lets face it, it's a 4G! As they started beating my buddy I yelled stop! They immediately backed off because of my 5G connections and finally let us through, later on I heard the leaders was so shaken from a run in with a member of the 5G Brotherhood they actually shook hands and called off the throw down, here is a picture they E-mailed me thanking me for averting a day of violence and shaking hands ending the long standing war between them...:pound:
