I think the tuner was correct. My tuner completely eliminated the dip in power and torque at VTEC tranisition and the bike is very smooth now. Horsepower and torque increased slightly (100.06 HP and 53.65 torque). No backfiring or sputtering. The problem with tuning for maximum peak power on these bikes is pretty fundamental - you can't change the character of the engine very much with exhaust modifications, air filters, and EFI mapping. These bikes will never produce a lot of torque. But you can dramatically improve smoothness and ridability with these mods. Given that, I vote for smoothing.

yes he did all fuel cells, but I only messed with the rev ranges and didnt go into the actual mapping, thats the way i understand it (careful I not the sharpest knife in the draw when it comes to this stuff)

    Hey 02 VFR Rider,
Pease tell me about "the chip". Where to get it from? Will it work with Leo Vince Evo and performance air filter?

Good stuff Pap. I see what you were saying about the increase at 9000.
Eastern Creek may bring that out...

For others who may read this stuff a year from now, flapper/snorkel and PAIR valve are not a HP mod.

No offense intended Pap, but I'm not buying it. I believe that you've stumbled onto on of those exagerating tuners that will overstate performance numbers for profits sake. Or a less than accurate dyno.

Thanks tinkerin. Big help those of us just starting out herding the horses. Have a set of Leo Vince Carbon conicals on the way over from U.S. to help her to exhale more easily and free up the sweet sweet noise somewhat. Along with a Werkes Fender Eliminator (not for HP gains, but for protection from those pesky flash for cash speed cameras!). Next is PC. Anyone able to advise on lurks and perks/benefit of going to a PC 5 over a PC 3? Catless headers and a +2 rear sproket in near future and that will be all for mechanical mods until suspension, I have no desire to De-pair or perform flapper/snorkel mod as I believe Honda put them there for good reason and there is no notable HP gain from what I have read so far besides gram shedding. Each to their own.

Believe what you want. Fine with me.

What you have posted is kind of pointless as all dyno results attached could be in this scenario. How many dyno guys would stay in business doing race bikes if the bikes weren't performing?

Regardless, once we see a few more 5th Gen charts we will know what is expected from that bike.

Being that the numbers he gave you are higher than what the factory claimed, at the crank nonetheless, I will just have to believe that my pointless observation is correct. Believe it or not, shitty tuners are a dime a dozen, and I don't see any traveling dyno "specialists" working crew for any race team I'm aware of. You can take my original post as being helpful in determining who you work with, or you can get bent out of shape and direct it at the wrong people. Choosing the latter isn't going to do you much good. Look at these specs and tell me who's full of shit; your tuner, or myself. If you believe that a 10 year old bike is capable of exceeding factory crank numbers, at the rear wheel, without having done major modifications, including air intake, then that's your prerogative. I'll stay here in reality and just apologize to you for having had the audacity to inform you that you've been doing business with a schmuck.

    Maybe you have missed something...

This is where the ignore button would come in handy :)

1- I have made considerable mods (did you actually read my earlier post - it lists them)
2 - where did you get travelling dyno from
3 - Why would you know about every dyno business especially ones so far away

All that being said I never questioned your integrity. I'll post my results and let people decide.

I think if I had made no modifications then your comments would be bang on.

Maybe an oversight on your part?

I don't think anyone would claim that a 10 year old bike with no mods could produce a higher output...

    and that's it

This graph is a little different, it shows time rather than RPM. The blue line was with 49states carbs, 130 main jets, and California cams.
The red line is 49states carbs, 125mains, and 49states cams. Developing full HP two seconds sooner than before. Just picked up 118 mains as I'm still too rich for 5000ft elevation.

I did actually read your mod list before I posted, Pap. I'm not generally bagging on your mods, they're very similar to my own, but they are simple modifications nonetheless and not at all what would be required. I'm not entirely sure you're grasping what I'm trying to say in that 106hp is a crank number on a brand new bike. That would put a rear wheel dynoed number at more in the 90hp range in stock form, at best. The mods you've completed are not worth 16 1/2 HP, and even that would be on a new bike. We're reasonably talking about a 20hp + gain to your machine with those mods; No way.

    All is good

    Thats fine.

In time more dyno's from 5th gens will either prove or disprove your statements.

Now, boys, calm down. We don't ride VFRs because we're impressed with the power. For a 540 pound bike the difference between 101 vs. 106 is hardly worth getting worked up about. :)
