The dyno is a tool used to quantify adjustments and make sure a bike is running at it's peak. You are looking for a baseline and then improvements.

The horsepower number displayed by a dyno is :bs: because you can put the same bike on another unit and find you get a different number.

Besides the fact that HP is a bullshit number. You don't ride at max HP and HP is a calculation of work done over time. The torque curve is a far more telling number. The dyno measures the torque generated and performs a mathematical calculation to plot the HP graph.

    What is Horsepower?

I put my 5th gen on one of those mobile dynos as part of a fund raiser for a local IOMTT participant, 20 bucks donation to his fund and you get to let the local shop monkeys run your bike up there, no probes installed and all that shit. Not a tuning run, just a good idea for a fundraiser since guys can't help but compare their penis err..... dyno numbers. It pulled 99 point something at like 10500 and I would not let them run it any harder since I dont know any of these guys. I dont have the chart because it meant nothing and its floating around the garage somewhere. More fun was watching the guys that expected huge numbers and their bikes weren't pulling anywhere near their expectations. My bike has slight mods, PC and Staintune pipe.

There's always lots of talk about dyno numbers, manufacturers now use HP numbers to sell bikes because the top speed numbers look bad to the non biker public, so they need something.

As part of a real tuning tool used by a tuner these machines are useful and provide data to verify your changes are effective, but the numbers are really only important as a comparison to baseline on your particular bike. You dont ride dyno numbers. I suspect that the person doing the tuning and running the dyno, being responsible for its calibration and maintenance are more important than any number you may see. Besides, seems like the real true dyno number would be with the engine removed from the bike.

Tinker I havent found anything on the webz yet that even approximates converting a carbed Cali bike to 49 state, much less with air /fuel ratio graphs you are looking for.

Pap11y and/or Gman, I will see if I can find the chart from my run if you are interested, but it wouldnt be much use since its a 98 and done on a questionable dyno. So if you're thinking this wanker doesnt have jackshite that would help me out, you would be correct, and Im sorry.

Any and all dyno numbers should probably be taken at face value and with a bit of skepticism, a number of variables means a number of chances to make errors. Even manufacturer's numbers are suspect, with the possible exception of MV Agusta, which keeps all the run data from their engine ( not bike) dyno for all the motors they've ever built, or at least they claim to. But one would expect that from them.

I dynotuned mine to get rid of the annoying flat spot at approx 6000 RPM to 7000 RPM.

I would like to say that my HP increased to eleventy-billion HP - but it did not.

    But seriously..

I have collated the data so far. All data provided for information purposes only :)

I realise that dynos can be out so ther can be a margin of error.

Most bike with pre and post values and a dyno posted showed a variance of:

Between 2.29 - 7.9 hp changing from a stock standard map to a custom map
Between 0.72 - 3.32 gain in torque from a stock standard map to a custom map

Very hard to determine what did what but plenty of data there for the analytically minded.

P.S. some of the mod lists are incomplete cause they were too long. And The Dyno column is whether a dyno was posted.

The more data we get the better..

    hey everyone!

here is my dyno graph in my signature...the run was done on a hot and humid day, so at a cooler temp the numbers would have been a bit higher... i had a stock air filter (that needed to be changed...) and a partial gut exhaust. here is my dyno run on: YouTube - vfr dyno run gutted exhaust
    100.7 hp and 57lb torque

Virtually identical to my numbers (2004 with Leo Vince and PCIII and aftermarket filter).

Can you repost the graph a bit larger?

Here are my dyno runs for my 2000 model 5th gen, lower 2 on same dyno same day, upper 2 on same dyno same day, all 4 are on the same dyno with the same operator.
Here's what was done from bottom to top on graph ! I didn't do a standard run, these are with acumulative mods.

    Run-1
All PAIR parts removed & Blanking plates fitted.
All Vacuum parts not required removed.
Airbox top modified, same as deflappered/desnorkelled, but with mesh to keep lumps out of airbox.
Home made RAMAIR feed to airbox.
    K&N Filter.
    Motad Catless headers.
    Delkevic 350mm short silencer.
Power Commander 3 with closest match Map from the website.

    Run-15
As above + Custom Fuel map with 500rpm stage corrections.

    Run-16
    As above +
Manually Modified Custom Fuel map with 250rpm stage corrections.
    Coil on Plug fitted.
Electric water pump & sealed off mechanical pump port.
Custom cams to my own spec, based on standard RC45 timings (not race).

    Run-26
As above + New Custom map with 250rpm stage corrections.

    Custom-Map-2-all-runs.jpg

That's a 10% increase in Torque & RWHP. These figures exceed the stock crank figures  It feels like a lot more, the bike just pulls so much better now
