I love my GPS. With it I no longer have to pull out the paper map, or pull over to check out the correct turn on the map on my tankbag. When traveling I don't have to wonder if that was supposed to be a left turn instead of a right.

At the risk of making ol Charles whine some more, the manual for his GPS is on the net. The screen reflection can be somewhat alleviated by applying a piece of polarized sheet to the faceplate or just shoot it flat black..

I don't do packages but I am looking for a GPS downlink, so I can watch my Oprah re-runs. Nothiing like ton of Oprah at the ton IMO.

I thought it said the "200W series"? no? Like it was for any model 2xxW? Hate when companies do that with TV's and stuff.

Oh, and for glare, you can do a couple of things. One is the anti glare screen protectors they sell, might not have one pre cut to your screen size, but you can buy a universal one and cut it down. Or go on like E-Bay and there are people that make little like hoods or visors that you stick on the top of the unit to cut down glare. You can also try a GPS accessory place like GPScity.com . Not to rub it in, but for others who might read this, the Zumo since it is made to be used on a bike, has a anti glare screen.

    Why wouldn't you want one?

I have had one for a little over 12 years, and I find it pretty indespensible. Could I ride without one, sure, but having one just makes my life so much easier. There really isn't a downside to having one, except the actual cost of buying one; and that is going to mean different things to different people.

The manual you referred me to had a link to a Garmin page that did list the manual for the 205W.
Interesting that the manual that came with the unit had a total of 8 pages.
The manual available from the Garmin web-site has around 60 pages.
More features than I will be likely to use and a lot more information than what I will understand.
Thanks again and thanks for the anti-glare suggestions.

I see Badbilly is still cluttering up the thread.
I'm sure it's all great information, but since he is on my ignore list, I don't really worry about him.
Just out of curiosity, why do you people put up with his drivel?
If everyone puts him on their ignore list, maybe he would just fade away.

Anyway, thanks to those that contributed something trying to help rather than post whoring.

Poor Charles still buckin for the sympathy vote. Now he's having trouble reading the bloody manual.. Hopefully he can watch Oprah and the re-run of Dr. Phil and his magic crying towel.

...and to think he is saying I am on ignore Tsk-tsk musn't fib there Charles. Jesus doesn't like that and you might even find that everybody is not going to follow your directions just because you think you have the moral highground. My suggestion is to RTFM .

Also as a whore, I charge extra for all that kinky shit you really want to tell us about.

Ha! Looking to do a little more traveling outside the flat land of Florida. I think having a GPS with "custom routing" would be a nice little gadget to have.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single $500.00 GPS.

The paper one you have is probly the "quick start" one. Garmin likes to do a short version like that, and then a longer one with more [but I find, not all] detail.

you can get them for less than $500, way less - and for some people that really isn't a hard ship anyway
no one says everyone has to use one
some of us like to take rides far away from our homes, and on roads we have never been on. A GPS while not necessary of course makes this much easier and thus the ride much more enjoyable. Which is more important than $500. And I even got my first one as a gift, so it cost me $0, I only had to be deserving of some great friends. Something you may fail at... ;-)

Sometimes it ain't all good. Some big rig drivers were using thier GPS to route themselves through my hood on thier way to some very large "package" deliveries. Great routing on a bike or a car and I suppose a Dick Tracy wristGPS.. for the hoofer crowd. For big rigs? nope.. The local storm troopers were handing out $400.00 tickets to the drivers with the caveat that it was thier fault. Sieg Heil! One driver tipped a light pole with a trailer wheel and every politician within a mile was there with a solution.

    Charles missed it. Sorry Charlie!

My wife and I were taking a walk and almost got run down by a driver looking at a dash mounted GPS. I waved my arms as the car was headed straight for us, and got no response, so i grabbed my wifes arm and pulled her out of the way. The driver was also going around a curve in the road and almost hit a fence and telephone pole.

It was daytime and we had on bright clothes.

Just think if Columbus had one we might all be living in Jamaica and delivering packages of Rasta herb.

I think it's possible to put too much crap on any bike. Sort of diminishes the experience and worse, too many farkles on machines capable of as much as 150 mph tend to suck the concentration factor right down the toilet and into ER's

To lend to this I am almost ready to disengage my 15" plasma TeeVee and not watch any more Oprah re-runs so help me Baby Jesus.

I have a nuvi200 in the car I use for work.

I have a rino 530 I use in the mountains. $320 from Amazon. Custom routes using Mapsource. Topo maps available. Weather radio and 5w GMRS radio. The GMRS will also transmit and receive coordinate locaitons from anyone else within radio range and using a rino.

Lastly, I have a SPOT so the wife can keep track and make sure I'm still on the move. SPOT Shared Page

I bet if Columbus had one of those his wife would have nailed him for messing around with those topless native gals.

maybe. or she could have been into the whole swingers scene :boobies7:

hard to say. If you're going to let your hubby sail the oceans for years on end, there must be some openness in the marriage don't ya think?

or maybe his first wife wouldn't have drank herself to death if she'd had a SPOT. Or if you're a conspiracy theorist, maybe he didn't just give the Indians TB but his wife too?

Hard to say. Maybe some of the revisionist historians will set us both straight.

Does this rig you have account for the best Jo-jo's too?

Now I'm wondering if that going to the moon shit was real or not? How did they get there without a GPS ?
