Ha ha, 57 here and loving my 03 VFR more all the time. I've had it almost two years. Other than the stock seat I wouldn't hesitate to do long days and extended trips. It's a fine machine for us gentlemen who don't need roundels to know who we are, and don't think you have to spend $20k for a sweet ride.

62 years old - quit motocross at age 53 (due to C-5, C-6 & C-7). I will continue to ride as long as I can throw a leg over a bike. I love my 5th gen VFR.

58 this past June. Just took over my sons '06 Interceptor(he will not be able to ride for a while, two sliped disks in his back). I have been riding since high school, other than the CB750 and a Yamaha 360 in the early days I have been cruiser all the way. Now after 1500 miles on the VFR she has become my ride of choice, my Marauder is now reserved only for local poker runs and Rolling Thunder events. I kick myselve for not getting one sooner. Well, its better late than never.

My experience is different. I've had several people tell me my VFR is an old person's bike, which suits me fine.

I'm 50. I recently became aware of a guy who is 88 years old and still riding every day on one of those Kawasaki W650 throwbacks. He says riding a motorcycle is the only thing that will make you feel 40 years old. To him, I'm just a kid and my bike -- any bike -- is just a means to an end.

So don't worry so much about what category people put you or your bike into. Worry whether you're going to be able to ride when you're 88.

I'll be 61 this month, just picked up my first VFR ('86 750 with all the upgrades imaginable) a month ago. Been riding 45+ years, owned almost everything other than a cruiser. The VFR is my preferred bike unless I intend to go off pavement (got the Scrambler for that) or two-up (got the Trophy 3 for that). I have owned a Sabre, a Magna, and a 1st gen VF750F.

Why the VFR? It's beautiful to look at, comfortable to ride, has a fantastic soundtrack, yadayadafreakinyada... y'all know why.

P.S. Yeah, I know some people consider the Magna a cruiser.

45 and before the VFR I had a Vulcan 800 for about a month. Hated the cruiser seating. Felt like my lazy boy, that is where I nap. Found a great deal on my 02. Before the Vulcan I had a 06 Triumph Thruxton, the ergos on that bike were killing my wrists. I may just be a convert into the VFR cult.

    Older Guy

OK, I'm 72 and bought my 1998 VFR800(4200 miles) last year. It's a real fun ride and I use it when not touring with my 1998 ST1100. I've been riding since I was 13 when I got a motorized (Whizzer??) bike.

I cant wait to show my wife this thread.... I'm 43 as of last week and just got my VFR (absolutely love it) also have a zx11 that pulls like an acme rocket on wyle coyote. My two sons are not old enough to ride on the street (they are on dirt for now) but they want me to get a third "crotch rocket" so we can all ride together in a few years. Therefore, my wife is now out voted and I will continue to purchase more toys, or until there is no more room in the garage to hold them. Funny thing, both boys like the VFR over the zx11. Wife likes the Jeep!!!

I'm 66 - bought my 2009 VFR800A VTEC 2 years ago when returning to biking after many, many years in the wilderness.
My previous bikes were owned in the 60's & 70's - both BSA singles, one a side-valve 4-stroke 250cc with telescopic front forks & solid rear end, speedo in the tank & a seat off a Vincent for comfort. Used it to travel from London up to Manchester & back when I was at University in the 60's. Had several accidents - mainly in the rain - but no injuries & the bike just kept on going.
The second was a 350cc pushrod B31 with proper front & rear suspension - a very nice bike that I bought from my brother for £60 with a promise that I would return it to him when I had finished with it.
He never got it back - forgot about the promise over the years until he reminded me a couple of years ago.
By then I had crashed it pretty hard - my fault, overtaking a traffic queue too fast to stop when a car at the front turned across me to go down a side road. My right leg was in plaster for 3 months & I didn't get round to rebuilding the bike for many years, by which time I had moved onto cars & didn't have anywhere to keep it - so I gave it away!
I was brought up in the Isle of Man & always yearned to get back to biking, but approaching retirement made my mind up, as otherwise it would be too late.
