I agree about ol Rick but at least he ain't doin the hired help like Arnie, at least yet. You see what you want to see. No wonder you can't hold down a job and have to buy desperate women.

Yep, I do some writing for Soundrider. Just "talked" Email with Tom, the owner/editor who BTW, just won a nice AMA award for "Sportbike NW" . Try to be more careful with your reading and subsequent babbling about where I have been. The Canadian border is just a few miles from Seattle and yep, been there many times on land and by Ferry from Port Angeles. Never went to those ice races, never said I did. But, knock yourself out making up shit trying to score points. So, that is twice in two days you've had opportunity to come up with something solid and it ain't happening. Any more about the Special Olympics we should know..LOL.. another major gaffe..

Lost for technical reasons, is about as good as the dog eating homework or abduction by aliens.. Don't waste your time hounding Tom for info or intel. You were pegged as a nutter way back..

From what I hear, the guys that do that ice race need some financial support unless you are more into popscicles after a couple of laps on that course.

    Nolan says, Howdy!

It's nothing short of epic entertainment to witness a person of such professed intelligence going to such great lengths to so vehemently deny something that they profess as not being true. I would have to say it puts an entirely new twist on the "like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest" quote. Ya just can't get your head wrapped around it, and I'm taking large amounts of satisfaction watching you corkscrew yourself into a tizzy, awesome good time for me. Keep it coming, you have now morphed into NASCARBilly, just flailing around in circles, thank my lucky stars that we are only on lap 5 of 500, as this sure does bring a giant smile to Norkel's face. Here's to laughing at you Trollan!

PS: I don't need to talk to Tom. Should I hazard a guess as to what that email was about???? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Oh My, do you now have a thing for NASCAR too? Is there a 500 lapper in the works or is that just another of the things you hope are true or is is because that "woman" will be driving soon? Thank for the compliment but I just don't recall ever saying that about myself'. One more of your growing list of things to evidence. Dude, you got phobias that don't even have names yet..

The Email? In a nutshell, I was proofing a backroad ride in Benton County, Oregon that will be part of a book Tom is writing about touring in the PNW. We talked about the Bike show changing venues back the the Seatlle Convention Center and some guessing as to why Cycle World Mag is no longer the official sponsor. CW was recently sold to another house. The show's offical sponsor is Prorgressive Insurance. which was one of the first outfits to not shove bike insurance rates up our collective wazoos. Some other talk about some finalization of what is called MOM (Museum of Motorcycling) in the PNW, and some funny stuff about a guy Tom and I know who is more sane but a bigger asshole than you are. Hard to believe I know.

Were you discussed? LOL.. at least now you are better informed yet as unimportant as ever.

Nice to see " Lame and Cool " with Cool is ahead of Lame by itself, showing the website to a R1 riding mates 5 year old StarWars obsessed son this weekend inadvertently causing trouble between them, apparently his dad will become the Coolest dad in the world if only he'd order the Rebel Alliance Leathers.

White storm trooper for sure. But I do like the previous posters idea of having batman and iron man in the collection for the sake of change.

I get so many weird looks in my black, white and blue alpine stars (full leathers), even when I am carrying the helmet...

I know there would be people who are put out by the suit and would want to start shit, but the amount of people who would see the funny side and kids who would love it would more than make up for that...

But if it was Star Trek, it would be a different story entirely... ;)

Speaking of which, when Highway slabbing I keep alert by listening to entertaining General Science podcasts like an excellent weekly Radio one by our "Dr Karl", last one listened to an intriguing question on " Do snipers consider the Coriolis effect? " came into the Show. The question starts at 11:11 with further discussion at 28:10. (PM me if its working if you wish not to answer here.)

Was wondering about answer to the question of " Do snipers consider the Coriolis effect ? "

    No Easy Answer

One of the classes I taught as a sniper intructor was external ballistics. There's no "easy answer" here. For most shooting situations it's not calculated. For 7.62mm NATO sniper rifles that have a realilisic range of 1 KM or less it's not part of a snipers "dope" settings. I have seen the "light rifles" able to push out in good weather beyond that range and on a north or south shot a coriolis calculation may be needed.
The BIG DOGs are the .50 BMG rifles. Most of what you see in movies is Hollywood BS. Most of the m82 and m107's are not near as accurate as the stories behind the myth. But there are some of the semi auto .50's in servive that are accurate enough to attemp to ingage beyond the 1 mile barrier (1,609.344 meters). Shots at this range take the 7.62/ .308 War Horse out of play. Were the semi auto .50 BMG rifles lack there are more solid bolt action .50's that fit this mission. The AMAC, Barret M99 and McMillan...
This Rig held the long shot in combat record for a few years in the hands of Canadian Sniper Rob Furlong, 3rd Battalion of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in support of Operation Annconda in Afganistan.
A few year later the current record is held by the Britt's Craig Harrison with the impressive AI .338 Lapua Magnum Arctic Warfare rifle with the 2.4 KM kill also in Afganistan. And He did it with a rifle that is a fraction of the weight of the .50's. IMO, best sniper rifles in combat today are the .338 Lapua's
    [IMG]
Like I said, no easy answer.
In some shooting situations YES, Some NO. This varrible is bound to get even more previlent in sniping when the "BIG .40's" end up going to war. Rifles like the .416 Barrett and Chey Tac .408 come into play, I expect the previous records to be broken. Down side is the .40's are as big as the .50's. Not a rifle for every mission.

Wind, barrametic pressure, humidity, alititude, degree of cosine, spin drift and coriolis effect all come into play when attempting shots beyond a mile.
Like I told my students "Your job is Death by Algebra"

Thanks for your very comprehensive answer and confirmation that Coriolis effect is allowed for in very long range shots, also liked how the importance of maths is highlighted so clearly in your quote to students.

Got a fear? So choose your phobia

    Dwain Walden

Today I was riding down Highway 133 listening to Credence Clearwater Revival who was wondering “Who will stop the rain?” What irony, given that we are in a drought. Then out of the blue, one of the disc jockeys said his friend has ostraconophobia. Sounds like something you might catch in a back alley bar. But no, it is a fear of shellfish.

And then I wondered why anyone would be afraid of an oyster or a lobster. Sharks and sting rays, yes. But clams are not really all that big. And even if you don’t like seafood, I’ve never heard of anyone being attacked by one of these creatures. I realize some folks have become sick from eating oysters, but you can also get sick from eating poorly cooked pork as well. And lo and behold there is a phobia related to pork called swineophobia. I’ve been chased by a mean old sow, but it was not about swineophobia. I was trying to move her pigs, and it was purely a matter of self-preservation.

So I did a little research and did you know that every letter in the alphabet except “Z” has dozens of phobias that go with them?

Now back to ostraconophobia. Though I have no fear of shellfish, I would certainly have a fear of drawing this word in a spelling bee. I wouldn’t break out in a rash or anything like that, but I definitely would have that deer-in-the-headlights look. I didn’t find a phobia for fear of spelling bees, except back in high school we called it Miss Puckett. There is however a phobia for the fear of long words. It’s Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. Such words are not meant to be pronounced, only read.

Apparently we have a lot of scared people in this world. And they are not just scared of getting bombed, getting mugged, having an IRS audit or awaiting the results of a DNA test. Nosiree, they are scared of things that most of us would never notice.

For instance, did you know that some people fear the number “8”? It’s called octophobia. So are people just afraid of whole numbers? If someone was afraid of 8.7 would they have octofractionalphobia? Has anyone ever dressed up as the number “8” for Halloween?

When I was in college, I had a fear of algebra. But they don’t even give me a phobia for that. But I’ll tell you what the symptoms are. There’s a hollow feeling in the pit of the stomach, a dry throat, nervousness and a strong desire to have the letter “x” removed from the alphabet.

People who are afraid of politicians are said to have politicophobia. Now you may notice that some phobias have Latin prefixes while some just draw their name straight from the fear itself. I prefer the latter best since I don’t speak Latin.

We don’t hear or read a lot about politicophobia. I think we are more afraid of taxophobia or even porkophobia and fraudophobia. Strangely, there is no official phobia listed for fear of taxes but we all know it exists.

If you are afraid of chopsticks, you have consecotaleophobia. And you are a whuz. If you have a fear of spoons and forks, you are probably very thin. Wonder how many people wish they had forkophobia? It’s not even a real phobia, but probably one we could use.

If you are afraid of growing old, it’s called gerascophobia. The fear of not growing old doesn’t have a phobia either. But it can be experienced when the pilot announces that the flight will be returning to the airport.

A surgeon who is afraid to operate is said to have ergasiophobia. A surgeon who takes out the wrong kidney is said to have no felt tip marker. If you fear that the wrong part might be removed, you might want to coin yourself a phobia given that so many of these instances have been reported. I would suggest, “triplecheckophobia.”

But I think phobias are overrated and overstated. For instance, I don’t think fear of a rattlesnake is a phobia. I think it is common sense. And the old phrase, “speak softly but carry a big stick,” does not indicate a phobia in my book. It only means that someone’s Doberman got loose, and you’ve got on a brand new pair of Red Camels.

I used to fear Rocky Palumbo. It wasn't a phobia exactly. All that ended in the 10th grade when me and Rocky has a little come to meet Jesus behind the gym. Hence "No Fear." ;)

I wonder if the harleydoods wear all those skulls and Nazi shit because there isn't a phobia defining fear of harleydoods.

Anyone that comes up with one could become famous on Google or Wiki.

Not sure about Harleydoods phobia but the question reminded me of a sketch from one of my favourite British Comedy duos pondering the question why SS wore Skulls on their uniforms, perhaps they have the answer ?
