Hello Gang. Good news. My kids are teenagers and my wife now doesn't care if I go away for a week without them. So I am planning a trip to Newfoundland with my Newfie buddy this August. He will be riding some sort of Harley thing (who can tell the difference?) and I will be on my 2000 VFR 800. I haven't ridden to the coast since '86 on my '83 GS750E, great bike, and I am now much older so... can I make the 5000km round trip with out my Arse, elbows and wrists, falling off? I would hate to have to trailer it back, followed by the Harley.
    Thanks for any advice.

How long are you planning to ride each day? If it isn't more 500kM or so, I wouldn't worry too much about it - unless you're really out of shape. I'm 61 and don't have a problem with 300 miles on my 2nd gen. I'll feel it; but it's not a problem to string several of those together.

Good for you...I've got a few more years before I can take off with ease...(6 year old)..but I am planning a 2 week jaunt to NM next year on the VFR so that is something... :)

You'll be fine...limit the miles per day, keep pressure off the wrists...use your legs for support...have a blast! I'm envious...take pics!

what i've found is; I can't do as many miles the first day as I can on the 2nd, 3rd, etc.. Each day my body gets more conditioned for the miles. You will also burn out faster the next day if you over do it today.

    You'll be fine.

Stay hydrated. Pop a couple of Ibuprofen at the start of each day. Walk around and stretch at each fill up. Move around in your seat when you can. Get a $20 throttle lock if you don't already have one.

I think 400-500 miles a day with Advil and Camelback, I should be ok. I've owned her since new and this will be my first long ride. (see above points re-kids. I do have 5 bikes though, God bless my sweet wife) Thanks for the advice. I'll post pictures of lobsters and beer... and the VFR
