first post need help

    first off let me say hi to every one. in having some trouble with my 86 vfr 750 f i bought it from a guy that let it sit for two years and the good news is it started the first try no problem the bad news is its pouring fuel out of what i think is a regulator of some sort i will put a pic in this post the odd thing is it only dose it wen the fuel pump is running and its gitting fuel if the pump is dry or off and its running off whats left in the line or bowls not a drop im new to bikes but like to think of my self as a some what descent mechanic but im stumped can any one help me out ? 20120407_042314.jpg 20120407_042301.jpg 20120407_042308.jpg

    :welcome: Don't know what that is as I haven't played with a 750 yet. Kinda looks like a filter tho. Are there only two hoses attached to it or more, I can't tell for sure? Can you bypass it with a hose union and see if the bike still runs?? Do any of those hoses have vacuum on them when running?

    PS Someone who ACTUALLY knows what that is will be along shortly to help I'm sure.

    That is an air vent control valve, if fuel is coming oot of it then your floats are stuck and the carbs are over filling. Best to pull the carbs and clean/inspect. You can ditch it when the carbs are repaired and just leave the big line from the carbs open to atmosphere and cap the other 5 little lines off on the carbs. And as has been stated many times but can not be said enough........FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS SACRED AND HOLY DO NOT REMOVE THE MANIFOLD AND PULL THE CARBS AS A COMPLETE UNIT.

    ok got the carbs off as one unit but the old boots are dry rotted and cracked do they still make them also i noticed the seeing glass on my clutch is cracked and leaking is there any one who makes just the glass or am i going to need a whole master cylinder?

    Yes, the boots are still available. I just bought a set from my local dealer, but you'll probably get a better deal shopping them online.
