86 vf 500 Oily Front Rotor?

I am new to street bikes, but I'm pretty sure my front rotor should not feel oily to the touch. It seems to stop fine, any ideas where it's coming from?
Could the fork oil find it's way to the rotor?

 

Yep. Most likely fork oil.

Replace both fork seals, AND your brake pads.

 

Check at the stanchion wipers/seals. If the oil trail works its way down the bottom of the fork leg, then I agree it's likely oil.

If it is clean up there, then check for leaking brake fluid.

I second replacing the brake pads regardless of what is on there.

Any Anti-dive components? You would totally see fork oil running down the outer tube.

 

Where's the best place to buy new pads and seals?

 

From your Honda dealer or Honda on the intarwebs. Aftermarket yields no gains here.
Be sure to change the copper crush washers on the drain bolts and the allen bolt on the bottom.

 

is it worth putting performance rotors on at this point?

 

If your rotors aren't grooved, warped, or less than the min. thickness, I would spend money elsewhere for now.
Just be sure to clean them real good. SOS pad works great, be sure to THOROUGHLY rinse.

 

You're probably right, is the minimum thickness in my borrowed clymer's or do I need a factory manual?

 

Pretty sure it's stamped in the rotor somewhere. Think it's 4.5 or 5 mm. Someone will chime in soon and verify.
