I did notice power surges around 30-35mph in 3rd last summer. So I'm contemplating about about adding a Dyno Jet PC 3 on my 03 stock VFR.
Having said that, I want to inquire about from some of you with experience. How much did you pay for it? I see one here for $260.
    https://store.58cycle.com/product_p/PC3 VFR 800 vtec 02-05.htm?gclid=CJrAloj3sbQCFal7QgodhDUAPQ

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so how complicated is to install? Does it require a dyno run to make sure it doesn't cause more damage than good.

    Thanks,

    Merry Christmas!

The price seem to be fair, it is plug and play very easy to install. Just make sure the kit come with the o2 eliminator. Dyno is your best solution, a good dyno shop can tune the map to your current set up. Let us know if you have any question and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Ride safe ATGATT

Can't help you with price since I bought mine used.
You might want to check with your local dealer to see if they would come close on price. Nice to be able to talk directly to someone.

    Installation is easy.
Go to Power Commander Products and you can download the installation manual as well as the various maps available. Lots of information there to read. They are also helpful if you contact them.
A Dyno run would be nice, but isn't absolutely necessary. I have never done one.
You should have 2 Oxygen sensor eliminators. There's a way to make your own using resisitors from Radio Shack, but I bought the high priced Dynojet ones.

I recently purchased a Power Commander V for $260.00 on sale at Bike Bandit. Install was a breeze and the results are great. With the V model you get the O2 sensors included. It is basically plug and play and come pre loaded with a Dyno tuned stock VFR map although if you ever do mods there are plenty of Dyno tuned modification maps from Dynojet available for download. Dyno tuning is really not neccesary especially for a stock bike.

Sounds likes some Power Commanders don't come with o2 sensor eliminators kits. Thanks for the heads up. Our bikes have two 02 sensors, right.

Don't bother getting a pc3 if u can get the PCV for roughly the same price.
It does everything the pc3 does and more. Plus it's half the size.
And with auto tune you don't have to pay some asshole $300 every time you modify your bike.

Yeah there are 2 o2 sensors on our 2000 and up bikes. any decent seller will include two eliminators with the power commander. My pc3 came with 2 o2 eliminators. If they don't include it, just go to radio shack and pick up two 330 ohm resistors, it's the same thing. I ran the resistors for a few months before I got the pc3.

If the PCV is compatible with the 2003 model year, it certainly does seem to have a lot more features.
Don't you need to purchase the AutoTune in addition to the PCV?
It doesn't come with the PCV for $260. Takes another $233 for the AutoTune kit.
It seems that the PCV can be installed and used without the AutoTune and you could add the AutoTune when funds allow.

Yeah it's compatible. They only list 09 and up but the connections are the same.
And it doesn't seem like you care about a custom map, so don't worry about getting an auto tune or putting it in the dyno. You can just down load a map off of dyno jets web site, or off of vfrsiscusion. Custom maps are the best, but honestly, you should just throw the 330 ohm resistors in there and see how you like it. That's where the surging comes from. It's the bike going in and out of open loop mode. I would be willing to bet, that after you installed the resistors you'd be 99 percent happy. The power commander and a custom tune is just for getting the bike perfect, smoothing out the vtec transition, and correcting the air fuel ratio after modifying the bike (which you already said you don't intend on doing).

Yeah, I don't have plans modifying my bike. But now, I'm getting a little more confused why PCV is better than PC3 besides the weight. So if I understood you correctly, PCV and PCIII use the same maps downloadable from the internet. PCV is lighter and with the auto tune, can be tuned to custom maps without having it to dyno. So, PC3 doesn't have auto tune option, you have to manually adjust figures?

Do a little research and gain some understanding about what the Power Commander does.

You can tune the pc3 manually buts it's best tuned on a dyno professionally. Also the PCV has 15% throttle cells that the pc3 does not.
