Personally I'm not too concerned with OEM as long as the fit is good and it is strong. So I guess fiberglass would be the way I would go....... IMO.

Lol this guy^^^ I wouldn't mind fiber glass. If you could make lower side fairings that would be profitable to

So I was at work.......working, and since my job is sooooo boring I daydream. Anyways I was thinking and was wondering if the cowl from a 750 will work on a 700? I've noticed a lot of things different on other peoples bikes (even 700s like my own) that are different than mine and now my excitement is turning into panic.

There are surprisingly few differences between the 700s and 750s. There are actually more differences between the 86 and 87 models. The 750s were only imported to the US for the 1986 model year, and AFAIK. the only differences between an 86 model 700 and an 86 model 750 are the crankshaft and connecting rods in the motor (well, that and the paint scheme). The rest of the engine, the wheels, all the body parts and most of the rest of the bikes are the same.

As for the 86 vs 87, you have a number of differences. The 86 bikes had a Cam Pulse Generator (CPG), which was the 86 version of what we know today as a cam position sensor. This makes the black box (the PCM, basically) different between the 2 yrs, and the rear head is different too (I think the CPG mounts in the head, but it might have a mount in the block or the cam cover too). There are a few various other differences but even the 2 year models are surprisingly alike.

And ttmech...if you are able to fabricate fiberglass and/or carbon fiber body parts for these bikes, I can pretty much guarantee that between this website and vfrdiscussion.com, you'll definitely have a market for some side with to make some extra money since Chuck Crites is such an epic flake and has pissed off pretty much the entire 2nd gen VFR community at this point. None of the designs he's sold thus far are copyrighted, so I'd think it's game on for the tail sections as well as the rest of the standard style body panels (such as the upper, fender, windscreen, lowers, and inner panels for the upper).

ttmech: if you are able to produce plastic or fiberglass pieces for the entire VFR, you'll be rolling in the money in no time. I think I speak for just about everyone on the forum here when I say that we'd all be willing to shell out for a decent complete set of plastics for our babies, even if the ones we have are in decent shape. That's the key in value on these bikes (aside from mileage and maintenance) - the cleaner the plastics, the higher the market value.

My only recommendation would be to not skimp on the details or the quality of the parts, even if it does cost more to make. I came across left and right fairings for my '86 and paid $125 for both. They are cheaply made (and one needs painted white) but they are clean. Had they been higher quality I'd have easily forked out $200-250 each side.

Enthusiasts who know VFR's can tell the difference in quality from 30' away.

Does anyone know where to get a complete rear tail section for a 1986 VFR750F? I have searched all of eBay, called salvage yards, aftermarket company's and searched Craigs list everywhere... This is a total drag that no one appears to make one for these bikes!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As far as complete ones go, only one person makes them, Chuck Crites..... but beware, he's not delivered products to quite a few people on here... or when he does, it's after threatening police involvement. I almost gave up, but I tracked his father down and harped on them for a week or two. I finally got it, but it's really not worth it.

I've asked one person I know that has one, I'll send him here to find you if he wants to sell it.

Thanks for the reply... I kinda took it that the stuff made by Chuck/Cobalt Racing was over with, it seemed like there was a LOT of problems getting his parts after paying for them, and I sure don't want to go down that road. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know of anybody at all who makes tail parts for these bikes anymore outside of Cobalt Racing (Chuck Crites), and he's made a pretty bad reputation for himself over the last few years on this board. I can point you to plenty of uppers and lowers, but the only times I see tail plastic anymore is when somebody is parting bikes out on eBay. This is a really crappy fact cause Crites made the tail on my own VFR and it's exceptional.

The closest I have come is Airtech and Beasley Composites.. Airtech said if they could get a hold of a nice set they could make a mold, and that they have had a lot of calls about it lately. Beasley said that they could possibly make one from a set that was repaired, kind of a one off thing but it would be pricey. I guess I never realized that Honda does not make any restoration parts, kinda nuts considering how some bikes are becoming rare to find in nice shape but still run great. I guess Mercedes Benz has the ticket for parts, they always make Benz parts for their cars.

Dont be offended by this but... why are Americans so insular? There are loads of places outside the USA to source parts.
As one poster said.. he would pay for good quality.
    Try here.

I have not used them, so cant vouch for the quality. But when needs must.
Yes theyre in France, but there's a Canadian importer.

    Try ebay.de or ebay.fr
We had four years of the rc24 vfr750 86-89 in Europe, admittedly the front fairings changed from 1988, but the tail unit was the same throughout the range, tank was the same and the sidepanels will fit, even though there was a cosmetic change.

I posted this below, but thought it should go here in here as well.

Air-Tech is offering not only an upper and left and right lower fairings, they are now making a one piece solo race tail and a one piece street tail plus a solo seat cowl.
