You guys are all too heavy. How come nobody said "I ride my VFR to harass Harley Fergusons" ? I just don't understand people. :potstir:

I remember my first ride on 2 wheels. I was 3yrs old. A kid in ally in Baltimore had a bike. No adults in sight (grandma let me do what ever I wanted when I stayed over). I asked him to ride it. He said ok. I got on and went down a steep fenced ally out of control without knowing how to use brakes. Needless to say I crashed into some trashcans and a fence. I learned how to ride and wreck a bike the first time I got on one. Somehow I learned how to ride without ever being taught. I became a nut on a BMX bike. If it looked like a ramp I'd jump it as hard as I could. I could never talk my parents into ANYTHING with a motor. They where scared. Santa never delivered either. I'd have dreams about 3 wheelers, go-carts, min-bikes, all the time. In all these dreams I always find myself on a sweet ride but there was always a problem. The 3 wheeler had plastic bigwheel tires and had no traction. The mini-bike only had one gear....slow. The go-kart always had a gas pedal that only moved a half inch. I was so pissed off in these dreams (wonder what a shrink would say about this?).

I was 13 when I paid for my first bike....a Suzuki FA50. Every since I've been making up for those pent-up motorurges.

    That's why I ride.

Mom is still worried about me and motorcycles but she likes my VFR because it's RED. She feel better with me riding a RED bike because it's easier to see than my other bike which is not RED. This is proof that RED is the best color. Mom says so.

Normally I view HD's n the same light at SUVs Towing horse Floats, a bloody nuisance on the road and sometimes difficult to overtake safely through tight Twisties due to their " Thou shall not Pass " attitude, mind I wouldn't mind a closer look at the one below.

If they do go back to unrestricted speed limits I'll have to find an excuse to go there for a holiday...

THAT looks fucking awesome, for a tractor...

As appealing as it sounds, I do remember humping through the NT at stupid speeds many years back and encountering camels, cattle, kangaroos....... Me thinks the last place I'd like to ride fast is up there...

Was there in '91 and drove a Falcon the 480kms from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock in 3 and 1/2 hours inc fuel stop trick is not to do it in the early morning or dusk. A highlight was being overtaken doing 180 by a then new ZZR1100 at WOT like I was standing still.

I found that camels and cattle don't abide the dawn/dusk rule - my oldies used to live in Darwin so the trip was a regular for me (ex Melbourne), was also passed by a bike like I was standing still... Mirror check, light off yonder distance, 2 seconds later I shit myself as the bastard blew past me...lmao

Look at the tyres, is there anything you couldn't just ride over...??? Corners, what corners...???

Thanks for the thread. they did an article about this in motorcyclist a few years ago and asked a lot of pro racers why they ride. Good article.
Motorcycles in general for me is an addiction i dont mind having. I really enjoy the street and look forward to it everytime i ride but riding dirt bikes is like being a kid again and a complete escape from the day to day crap. I can get that same escape riding street bikes but im usually breaking the law to do so. But either way i could not imagine my life without motorcycles in it in some way. It is who i am and how i see myself, a motorcyclist.

    What great answers!

    It's a rush, it's fun. It's therapy.

What else can you do, by yourself, that let's you for a period of time, forget about a day of work BS, the BS going on around you, and for those brief, long, moments, watch a speedometer hit 100, 110, watch things go by in a blur and then say to yourself, hmmm, should I go home and have a beer?

My friends and I ride because of love, the time to care for the bike. The corner you hit when you least expect it and time stops while you lean in and let go of everything going on and watch the road unravel in front of you. Most importantly because it what we do together and each ride is one we'll never forget.

    Leaning.
Gravity, friction and centrifugal force are in perfect balance and you are suspended in the middle of it all.

It's like having your own amusement park.
Being able to take it [ride it] anywhere, anytime.

    I've also told people this.
"Remember when you were a kid and what a rush it was the first time you rode a roller coaster? I can have that same feeling any time I want."
