Good morning, I just got my 2003 VFR 800 this year. I love it. Recently I was riding it and it overheated and shut off. Once it cooled down it would start back up again. I took it to a Honda shop and they replaced the tstat, charged me $500 and told me I was all set. About 2 weeks later I was riding down the street at night and my headlight just went out. I lost all power to the bike. The first time this happened I got it to start back up. I managed to make it the 75 miles back home. The next day I tried to make it to a mechanic, unfortunately the closest one to me is a good distance away and the bike started overheating again. I pulled over before it shut down to let it cool down before shutting itself off...and that was the last time it has been running. When I turn the key on I can hear noise that sounds similar to what the fuel pump should should sound like but I dont think that is what it is. The FI light does not come on at all and there is no change with the kill switch one or off. I have made sure that the battery is charged, I have checked all fuses that I can fine and anything else I can think to look for. The bike is about 50 miles from the original shop that I took it too and I dont know if I trust them to work on it again since it seems to be a very similar problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Anyone have any ideas to try? I want to try anything before finding a way to get it to a shop as I dont have a truck or anything. Thanks,
Did the shop install a new radiator cap ?? IF the fan and its switch are working right and you have a new thermostat, it's the most likely thing to cause overheating if not replaced.
