Anyone have frame sliders on their 5th gen? I am considering a set, but have not installed them before, so pics with where you bought them would help greatly.

Yeah. mine go through the fairings and seem to bolt into the frame/engine mount. Not quite sure as I just got the bike a month ago and have yet to get to working on it... been too damn busy. :juggle: vfr8003.jpg

That looks like the sort of thing that would break the metal fairing tabs and take the fairing with it in the event of a drop. Any word on how they hold up?

Fortunately have not dropped her with these attached. I can tell you this though, those brackets they are mounted too are tougher than you think.

Well my friends after a few too many beers last evening I dropped my bike gently mind you. Just wanted to let you all know those Lust Bungs are not worth a sh*t The bung totally tore up the mounting tab no fairing damage. They are coming off and will NOT go back on ever.

PS/ NO I was not going for a ride. I was putting her up in the backyard shop and was making sharp low speed turn and she slowly went down as that one leg just can't hold her up.

Look into the 'Oggy Knobs', they're a "no cut" installation and hold up pretty good. Do Oggy Knob Frame Sliders Work?...yes They Do - Modifications - VFR Discussion I hope that you were not riding in that condition and that you were just in the garage messing about...:chaingun:

Oh hell NO! I went for a ride earlier in the day and had her parked in the front yard (should have left it there) I park it in a shop in my backyard. You have to maneuver around a fire pit and cut back sharply to aim for the shop. and that is where she went down in that sharp cutback *no more drinking*

:hss:That's not good - but at least you are OK.

For lighter bikes - add on crash bungs/mushrooms make sense and can minimise the damage in a minor tip-over. Sadly most VFRs are way too heavy - and as others have warned no cut sliders are probably going to make things worse. You have to bite the bullet and drill holes in the fairing to fit sliders which bolt right through the frame and use materials which can withstand and lessen the heavy impact without stuffing the fairings or frame. I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of the sliders sold by R&G Racing - which are available for 5th 6th and 7th gen models. Not only do they minimise damage in a tip-over or low side, they are strong enough to hold the bike clear of your leg, so if you can't get out the way, you don't end up with a trapped or broken leg, when a quarter tonne of bike lands on it.

Sorry you have had to learn the expensive way.

    Take care

I'll be doing mine on my 5th gen the DIY route. 12mm steel threaded rod ($20) cut to length to replace the through-engine bolt and 6" ZX14 ($24/set) sliders with nylock nuts on each end. Cheap to set up and replace, and should protect more of the fairing than most kits with the extra length of the sliders. Similar design and set up as the R&G but a whooooole lot cheaper.

Crash proven on my other bike

I'll post some shots when I get it installed, still waiting on the actual sliders to get here. Not much to see really, you just cut the rod long enough to fit through the engine and frame with about 1" extra on either side. Stock bolt is I think 365mm, so cut to around 415mm. Then just put a slider with a lock washer and nut or washer and nylock nut on each end and tighten together. Cut the fairing the same way as the R&G.

I sometimes hate it when I'm right :frown: How hard will it be to repair the damage?
