    Hi guys,

I have a 5th gen VFR and is curious to know if the 6th gen (VTECs) uses the same chasis?

Cos if they do, or even if they don't but the mounting for the rear subframe is the same as the 6th, wouldn't it be pretty easy to convert the tail section of a 5th gen into the underseat styled 6th gen?

no, they dont use the same chassis. (Frame) and yes, if they did, it would be easy to swap the tail sections.

The 6th gen uses thicker frame sections and is somewhat stiffer. Gee thats funny, I wanted to use a 6th gen frame and convert it to a 5th gen for my ride. The undertail thing just adds weight.

I understand the weight issue. But the promise of original, matching side bags option makes it kinda appealing.

Not to mention these sick exhaust from Lazer!

I'm not giving up although most opinions are that they are very different. Attached are pictures of the measurement of the subframe of the 5th gen.

Can some kind person post the same for the 6th gen? TKs!

Get one and make it fit. That's what saws and welders are for. A subframe is easy considering some of the other mods seen on this and other VFR sites. Go for it.

The mounting points on the 6th are in different locations than the 5th - is not gonna be a bolt up. Still, if you gotta have it, youll end up making some custom steel parts and welding it together - like the REV says.

    - I still like the 5th stock exhaust location and tail.

Tks Rev and MD. I've downloaded the 6th gen service manual and gotten a look at the subframe. Man it is way too different! I think it's easier to modify my subframe rather than getting a 6th gen one to fit.

Well, now I need to know how does the OEM panniers on the 6th gen is secured. Maybe a swapping of pillion foot pegs and a mild modification on the subframe will get those panniers to fit.

Differing opinions on the exhaust I guess. I'm not fond of old school look. I like the sharp lines of the 6th gen but definitely not that ugly headlight! The 5th gen is quite handsome, though I think a pointy tail and MV styled exhaust will make the newest kawasaki cringe in shame.

    You me and everyone else!

Alot of people have the same idea using the newer subframeon the older bike.Truth is..it doesnt mount up.Sureifyou have a tig you can make it work but the fact is its way too much work than simply modifying the old subframe and crushing a couple of pipes.I'll post some pics when im done.

The 6th gen uses thicker frame sections and is stiffer. The 5th gen and the
6th rear tail stocks (the part that is welded to the back part of the frame)
are different as well to allow the rear tail frame to mount and hold everthing for the tail/fender and stuff.

    subframe

If you want a 5th gen subframe to work/cut/hack/weld on while you retain yours to ride with, I have a spare. Might take some of the rush out of the project.
