I don't hate 'em. Though I'm not a fan of the loud pipes crap, that shit is just annoying...

I'm a fairly new rider but have had friends and family that have been bike riders for years. Some are cruiser people, some are sport bike people, racers, tourers, etc. Some like BMW's, Kawasaki's, Honda's, Suzuki, Ural, Boss Hoss, Ducati, and/or pretty much anything you can think of. For the most part they're all good folks. My cousin has a shop and sells Urals and Boss Hoss bikes (ridiculous things that they are) but they also repair/sell/consign pretty much every other type of bike out there.

As is the norm in every other aspect of life, there are always a number of douchebags to deal with whether it be in work or a recreational pursuit, just a fact of life.

Would I go out of my way to buy a Harley, nope. Can I appreciate that some of them (and more so custom cruiser type bikes) are really quite nice and almost works of art. Myself if I were to buy a cruiser it's likely be a Yamaha Bolt (nicely done bike in my opinion), or if I wanted to get right stupid, a Triumph Rocket. Other bikes worth a look for me would be a Street Triple, Thruxton, Aprillia Shiver, Yamaha FZ9, etc. If I had the money (and time to ride them all) I'd likely have a bunch of different bikes. But alas I dont, so my Gen 5 suits me just fine as an all purpose kind of ride and if someone else doesn't like it what do I care, they'll never be riding it anyways ;).

I don't see the point in hatin', at the end of the day we all love to ride!

Most of us like to have sex too but that doesn't mean with porcupines or badgers.

There's the thing see if you're still so tolerant in a few years. Maybe not all but the longer you ride the more HD riders you will come across who are total dicks.

Any experience you are remembering, or just a general comment?

    Funniest thing I've read today.

...until a pack of them wave we on into oncoming traffic or otherwise attempt to get me killed.

More a general comment than the other. I have seen some of these strange acts performed by harleydoods but the animals were roadkill.. Thus the "no animals were harmed during the filming" comes into play.

I would submit that you blokes in OZ have seen much the same acts performed on your local fauna and perhaps even flora..

You may be right, maybe I've just not experienced enough douchery to be bitter..., yet. That said, Canadians tend to be polite (pussies) to a fault, so I may not find quite as many HD poser/douchbags here as I might visiting our more "outgoing" neighbors to the south. Time will tell I suppose...

I can say though that I have been into an HD dealership here and wasn't impressed by the looks/attitude I was getting because I was more interested in the Guzzi's they had than the Harley's. Seemed odd to me, seeing as they were a dealer for both. Based on that experience if I ever did decide to buy a Guzzi I'd likely look for another dealership.

Yes, as an American it seems clear to me that Canadians are, as a people, much kinder and respectful of rules than Americans. This is especially true with regards to road manners. However, Americans are "the best" in many areas and perhaps the thing we are best at is driving 5 miles an hour under the limit in the left lane. For miles. And all the while ignoring all the other drivers giving them dirty looks while driving around them. (If it is even possible to drive around them because quite often they are driving at the exact same speed as the cars in the right lane so that effectively, a moving road block is created.

Oh, we are also excellent at littering.

    And making Harley Davidsons.

Dude!! Welcome back. I didn't think I'd be on your lump of coal list for long.

I suppose I could fashion a pun using Adeste Fideles as a base that would be almost as tacky as that Harley ad.

We also excel at driving while multitasking, talking on a cell phone and eating a cheeseburger all while messing with the GPS.
