My family and I purchased a new pet this year, and though my wife Angie has owned a few lizards in her past, but this is my first. Having owned an Iguana and for a short time a Chameleon, Angie is quite accustom to the fact that lizards like to climb things. Now I must freely admit that I know this as well, but, WELL, sometimes you just can not prepare yourself for where you might happen to find you lizard HANGING OUT.

Our bearded dragon "Lizzie" is now about 7 months old and nearly 16 inches long. Lizzie enjoys running around the house and can be quite comical in her (my daughter insists Lizzie is a girl and she is the one who chose the name) antics and earlier today she spent a great deal of time chasing an escapee "Chirping" cricket that had been driving us all a bit nuts since just before Christmas. This year we decided to set up our small Christmas tree as the new pets tank (a 30 gallon aquarium) is currently occupying the spot in which the tree normally rests. After being out for about 3 hours and in sight most of the time, she went missing. Normally when this happens, Lizzie can be found near the top of the screen on the patio door leading to the back deck. NOPE, not today. The kids and I spent about half an hour scouring the house searching for the vanishing lizard, knowing that she would appear sooner or later when she became hungry (she always comes back to her cage when she is hungry) and we found Lizzie in the most unusual place. Apparently Lizzie is also a big fan of Christmas and she really has a thing for stars.

WHAT IS THE STRANGEST THING YOU HAVE EVER FOUND IN YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE??

She started on the floor and somehow managed to get up on the end table beside the couch that the Christmas tree was sitting on and up she went, quiet as a mouse. Now I have seen everything. A little holiday cheer AND something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

If you keep Lizzie in crickets, in a couple of years you will have enough skin to do a seatcover for your bike.

They only grow to be about 2 feet long when they are full grown, so about the best I could hope for is a stylish inlay. Besides I wouldn't want to try and explain why the bike has a Lizzie seat cover.

You guys weren't watching one of the King Kong movies recently? If so, she may have been inspired.

We dry it here and use it for cooking roadkill. We try to be ecologically sound.

Very true, da crickets do indeed stink. We have been feeding her more meal worms though as that seems to be the preferred food in her eyes. The kids are 4 and 6 and they think that Lizzie is really cool as she is not the standard pet that most people have. Lizzie has also been to preschool, kindergarten, and grade 1 show and tell. Never ceases to amza me that even a lizard develops a personality as a pet. She even has facial expressions which can be quite comical. Sort of like "Toothless" from the movie "How to Train Your Dragon"

Got a buddy that is a big wheel at the Seattle Zoo. Before this position he was the zoo's reptile guy. There was a city wide flap going on about naming some forthcoming baby gorillas that went on for months. I asked my buddy if he was going to name his snakes. His response: "Bill, snakes ain't got fucking names."

We did submit Harley and Davidson as names for the baby gorillas but little consideration was given.
