The riding was good in North Texas. The handy dandy temp readout on my Viffer showed 58 degrees. It was clear, cool and yes, lots of bikers out. I had a few friendly chats with several Harley Doods and yes they were all nice and just out for a good days ride. There was one guy, riding a Harley (I don't know what kind because they all look alike to me) with no windscreen. He was asking about my Olympia riding suit and I thought I detected a pang of envy in his voice when I showed him the warm liner. It sure beats blue jeans and leather. Looking cool can be so uncomfortable. Lots cops out too.

It's a dull picture I know but it was from last Sunday and I can see my Viffer shadow!

No joke on the cops being out. They were posted up every couple miles through Arlington and Grand Prairie.

Looks like a lot more are haten on Harleys. http://www.prweb.com/releases/harley-davidson/burn-lawsuit/prweb8701137.htm

"Harley Davidson has known about this problem from the early 2000s and has the technology to fix it, but has chosen to sell tens of thousands of touring bikes here in California without disclosing this known defect. When Harley customers complain to Harley’s dealers after purchase, Harley’s response is that’s normal and it refuses to offer an effective fix to the problem."

I guess if the posers can't take the heat, then they should get off the Harley. They really don't understand the Harley mind set. "Hey it's normal and you gotta pay to have it fixed".

Waiting to see the out come on this one. Next thing you know there will be a "tariff" on all other water cooled bikes so Harley can catch up to the real world.

Harleydoods get burned as soon as they sign for the loan or refinance papers. Most are overheated to begin with. Then ya got some of em who burn themselves on purpose . The same dudes also have other things done like foreskin piercing.

The lawyer is one of those "lawyers who ride". The sidebox says he rides and races and owns a Harley. Looks like a UJM two-stoke to me. Catch that snappy outfit too.

Be fun to follow this one. HD is going to bury this dude or just pay him off then bury him..

To pass emission standards engines and exhaust pipes have to run very hot. It was no accident that most major brands went to water cooled engines. You just can't get those combustion temperatures and still have engine longevity without liquid cooling. It's Harley's own market, that demands an outdated push rod twin, that is the cause of this mess. These people are so hung up on tradition I am surprised that they don't bitch about foot shift and electric start.

For a group of people so brand loyal they sure get the shaft from the company.

Here in the Vegas area, many Harley riders actually wave back. Funny how that changes geographically.

My biggest gripe with the Harley-Davidson is the elite (and usually ignorant) attitude of the owners, "if you don't ride one, you wouldn't understand."

So my buddy used to be one of those guys, all nose stuck in the air and all on his Harley. Then one day, he rode another brand of motorcycle, just once.
Now he has 5 bikes in his garage... a KTM 950, a Honda XR650, a Honda XR400, a Yamaha TTR225 (for the GF), and his Harley is getting dusty in the corner.

Another guy I know has a Ducati Diavel. Bunch of his buddies were giving him crap about it, and he told them "I'm a cop and I DO ride one... I ride a Harley all day long at work... and I still don't understand why you like it!"

Being inefficient engines I would guess they also run them lean to ensure more complete fuel burn and better mpg's. This also raises engine temps and contributes to pre-mature uh wear.

I got out of sportbikes for a few years when I got a nasty ticket and tried cruisers. I owned a H-D XL1200C for a few years. I actually traded it for my VFR in 2010. It was a nice bike, it just wasn't my thing. I guess some of HD owners consider the Sportsters to be "girls bikes", which I didn't know prior to buying. The main reason I went with a Sporty was weight, I didn't want to go too heavy.

The only beef I have with HD owners is the Roadking crowd. From my exposure, most of them think they are God's gift to the motorcycle world. When I see their signature fairing approaching, I won't even try to wave, unless they initiate it. I've been snubbed too many times.

I have heard that the 883 Sportster is a "ladies' bike" but I have been told that the 1200s are MACHO!

I know someone who loves his 883-it gets over 50 MPG and is very easy to fix
I know a lot of Harley riders and they are no different
from any others except some are jerks
but so are some Honda riders:tsk::hat::bounce:

I'm sorry, I didn't know the definition of 'manly bike' included being too heavy to stand up by yourself. I had a revelation a few months ago after seeing an older guy drop his ape hanger bike. I asked him if he needed a hand, he declined, and it dawned on me why people install armpit driers. Leverage, because the bike would otherwise be too heavy to lift...

Back in the days that Harley riders reverence, a bike was transportation. Many Harley's and Indians carried tool and lumber, served as delivery vehicles or even towed cars. They also spent most of their time in what we would consider off-road environments. The Harley has morphed into a cartoon of it's former self gaining weight and size along the way. The adventure bike is the closest evolutionary relative to the Harley's of the 20s and 30s.

I like Sportsters because I ride bikes that make a pretense at going around corners. I half wonder sometimes how the makers of cruisers can get away with impeding lean angle with too low designs and hanging running boards on them?

Hee Hee, I saw an online article about the Yamaha Majesty a few years back, and it could outrun an 883 sporty. For those of you that don't know, the Majesty is a 400cc Maxi Scooter.

FWIW, my VFR fell over when it rained and the ground it was parked on got soft. It was very very difficult for me to get it back on two wheels.

That's a really unfair comparison. A maxi scooter was engineered after 1947.

Damn! I was all set to toss up that 360 Kenny Roberts Yamaha. Probably unfair too. Water cooled.
