Pigeon Forge is a long way from Franklin/Nashville, about 4 hours.

Yes it is at least a 4 hour drive from Franklin/Nashville....but you'll be in an area that is motorcycle riding heaven in (North Carolina mostly). There is the "Tail of the Dragon" (U.S. 129) if you have never been there. (Best to hit that Monday-Thursday much less traffic) but if you want to see all the hub bub go on a Saturday or Sunday. There is the Cherohala Skyway (highway 165 east out of Tellico Plains, TN.) There is highway 28 in N.C. U.S. 129 in north Georgia is good too. There are fun roads in nearly every direction. ASK THE LOCALS RIDERS!! They'll be glad to tell you. Don't forget the Blue Ridge Parkway.

It's fine. People move into an area and we get new members. Welcome to the forums!

Also check on VFRD, there's some Nashvillians there too.

I'm giving serious consideration to moving to the Franklin area.

Live near downtown Nashville and ride all around the city. Love Little Marrowbone Lake Road out toward Ashland City, the various roads around Liepers Fork, out through Ashland City to near Peagram-lots of very sharp curves and little traffic. Never ride Natchez Trace anymore-too much traffic, too much wildlife, too much risk of a ticket.

Beautiful area. It's a place in seriously thinking of moving to. How's the riding out there? I know Cherohala Skyway, Deals Gap, Tail of the Dragon, etc, and Natchez Trace. My brother lives near you and he says there's good riding all over, but I'm so spoiled by all of the canyons here!

Any roads out there that aren't highly patrolled and actually twisty?

To be honest I am not sure. The trace is a beautiful ride but I personally do not ride fast on it because I also cycle and have almost been killed numerous time by cars and bikes. I have not been to the dragon in 10 years so I couldn't tell you how well patrolled it is now.

Be at Puckett's in Leipers Fork early on a weekend morning. Lots of riders meet up there. There is endless riding in the area and it's easy to get lost in the area there are so many good, fast roads if you want to go fast. Just don't go fast on The Natchez Trace. There used to be a park ranger that road a VFR (not on duty though). He showed no tolerance for speeding.

Depending on the time of year and time of day there can be a lot of LEO's on the Dragon.

Very true. We can thank idiots riding the Dragon and Phil Bredesen for that. Tennessee po po's all made great grades in the "how to be an asshole" course during their " training". They also have a crime problem with themselves.

Back when I was in collage we use to ride "Deals Gap" on out RD 350's. Was fun on the little 2 stroke smokers with the extremely tight twisty turns. Dose anyone know when it was started to be called the Dragon?

There are hundreds of much better roads to ride than the Gap. And a lot less ass hats on them.

No idea on when the name changed but it seems that once an area becomes known, the ass hat population increases! Malibu is like this, particularly on Mulholland Highway. You’ve all seen the infamous rnicky mouse vids of ‘The Snake’ right? This is generally where the ass hats like to congregate, which is fine by me. I have several other roads I prefer to ride up there, one is a one way road, other than a few bicycles or street luge riders, the road is practically yours. Being a one way down hill road pretty much gives you the whole road to pick your line. Although the caveat with Malibu is dirty roads, a lot of little rock slides in the dry season and little mud/dirt in the “rainy” times of the year. Lol I said rain.
