Yes, another mileage issue, and I may have already asked for help on it.

HALP! My mpg is not as bad as that, but with mine, 19K miles, newer plugs, tires 36/42, premium gas, flapper, pair and snorkel disconnected with a partial gutted exhaust, I am getting 32mpg mostly freeway and in canyons forgedaboutit, I'd be lucky to get 29.

My temps seem fine, freeway yesterday was 180* no traffic at 64* air temp. Synced the starter valves like a fifth gen, but no diff. I guess I can try new plugs, but they may have 3-4K miles on them at the most. Hell, I have even had the injectors cleaned less than 1500 miles ago. I am running Rotella T6 oil, so I know that isn't dragging it, unless it being a bit high counts, and the oil only has about 500 miles on it.

The sucky part about this is that I am supposed to ride from SoCal to Nashville at the end of this month. 32MPG? I may as well drive.

Have you try replace the air filter
Try Techron or Sea foam for the next couple tanks clean out the injectors.
I would replace oil, air filters and the plugs to see if she improve.

First off switch to regular gas. Our bikes don't require premium and I have seen more than one vehicle LOSE mileage running premium. Also stick with name brand, I've seen mileage drop with the odd fill up at a "generic" station. Second...what brand plugs and are they the proper heat range. NGK and Denso are OEM for a reason  Last...hook the pair and flap back up just for giggles and see if anything changes.

It's hard to diagnose this without tearing into the bike. The engine temperatures seem ok and even a stick thermostat doesn't dip fuel economy into the 20s. Your VFR might have a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator. A couple other members have had issues with a faulty FPR dumping fuel into the vacuum lines (in one case the FPR even tested ok).

What diagnostics have you done so far?

Also, is the oil high because you added too much? Or was it at a normal level when you added it and now it's too high?

I think its much simpler-too much vtec all the time will eat a lot of gas. Stay under 6000. Ride 4500-6000. Hit 6000 shift to higher gear. Don't run truck oil either. Motorcycle syn only. I tried the flapper mod and the pair valve disconnect and the snockel mod-only the pair valve mod will work right with block off plates. Gutted exhaust makes the bike run like shit, run a good slip-on. I think the piper cross filter might actually work well-adding a few HP-but only if you keep cleaning it,.:blah::whoops::laugh: I get over 40MPG all most all the time as long as I stay out of vtec land.

The OP has stated he is getting 32mpg at highways speeds. Unless he is cruising at redline, that mileage is not normal.

maybe he was going 7500 in fourth gear-that would eat up a lot of gas instead of 75 in 6th gear getting over 45mpg.

Ok, well, air filter looks like new, not a Honda part, but it is a replaceable.

My RPMS typically are in the 5K to 6K range.

Oil is pretty new, maybe 300 to 500 miles on it. True, it is "truck" oil, but if this is any actual indication, it shifts super smooth, better even than the Castrol full syn that I usually run.

I am running either Shell, 76, Chevron or Costco gas. I suppose I can try running regular again, I know that is spec for our bikes.

When I sync'd my starter valves, I pulled the vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator, I did not smell any gas fumes. I have not had it tested. I doubt that this happened, but if on the odd chance that the vacuum line fell off, what would happen? My bike is running normally, so I doubt that this has happened, but just curious, what would a vacuum leak on this do?

The plugs are Honda spec plugs. They are the NKG, I can't find Denso plugs.

Regarding the oil, I probably over filled it, but it is above the full line, but below the top of the window, so you can see above the oil.

As far as what I have done to diagnose:

I have pulled the plugs, they are all uniform in color, within the color range they should be.

Checked the air filter - clean

Checked the pressure on my tires, my rear leaks a little, but no cuts, nails, screws, staples etc. Valve stem tight. Pump it up to 42 PSI, running Pilot Road 3 tires, good tread, about 5K miles. I have to top off the pressure once or twice a week. This last trip in the canyons, my rear was about 35-36 psi and yes, I was in VTEC often and I know that that drains the tank like a college student at a kegger.

    What else do I check?

I am about 6' 2" tall and I weigh about 280, plus gear, so maybe I am just weighing the bike down. I am bicycling and walking to lose weight.

there is your answer, what kind of gas mileage do you expect when you weigh as much as the motorcycle:biggrin-new::joker::tsk::ballchain:

Ok, that was less than helpful.

Anyone have anything constructive to add?

Has the fuel economy always been this bad since you purchased the motorcycle? Or is it a recent development? Just wondering if the previous owner might have made a modification that you're not aware of.

Have you tested the MAP and IAT sensors?
