I'd say this bike is going to perform right about where we are used to seeing both in sales and in critical acclaim.

I wonder if the alm rear swing arm would fit a 2006 vfr-how much weight did it save? And the new tank that lets you touch the ground easy. I matched the exhaust weight loss with a 2 bos carbon can. I bet my new battery on the way- 5.8 pds loss shoria and carbon canister removed. I would bet my bike is the same or lighter. Just don't see enough here to see why you would want to buy new when a 2006 model or later would work almost as well for half the price.

I would get one if I was in the market for another VFR. I like it better than I ever liked the 6th gen and we have only been seeing it a few months. Just imagine after a couple years and someone adds a few tweaks like custom pipe, frame sliders, wrapped in red white and blue, dark smoke shield, shaved fender, etc.

I just think it's going to be a good all around ST bike just like the VFR has always been.

I would love to get one, but the bike doesn't come with a divorce lawyer! Besides, I'm just getting the two I have now setup to the way I like them. I would hate to start all over again! but then maybe I wouldn't feel the need to change anything...

:whoops::fencing::spider:I can see one Huge Flaw with this bike having a weak Alu swing arm and it busting in Half when Randy Loads it up and causing a accident! Why are Honda so cheap and don't use TI instead? TI and Carbon Fiber weigh the same, yet TI would hold up the extra weight. I would rather have my heavy steel swing arm and steel saddle bag hardware.

I believe what you mean is the rear sub frame. That's what got changed from steel to aluminum. Although they did make an all new aluminum swing arm for the 2014, the 6th gen swing arm is also aluminum.

What do you call that steel bar going though the center on bike goes by the engine, so there is no weight loss there on the rear swing arm then.

Yeah, because Honda should make a sports-tourer have exotic titanium and magnesium exoskeletons.

I think you bought the wrong bike if your that concerned with weight. Sheesh.

Oh, and pretty sure most of your bike is made out of recycled soda pop cans, including the swingarm.

Gee the top of the line 2014 goes for close to $15,000 brand new, you don't think Honda could make a bike with some rare metals-TI goes for less than $35 a pound. I have to realize I am lucky to have a 2006 and pay less than half of the retail value for it-I also buy used high end parts twice, carbon cans, oem bags with now a few minor scratches-I don't care about that. Well God gave me some super rare Kittens.:flypig::alien::madgrin: IMGP0328.jpg IMGP0329.jpg IMGP0330.jpg

I'm not really sure what steel bar you're talking about. The rear sub frame is the back part of the bike that the seat, saddlebags, rear fender and tail light attach to. On the our bikes (6th gen) it is tubular steel. On the new 2014 it is aluminum, since it doesn't have to support the heavy weight of the 6th gen stock exhaust, thus a weight savings is had.

the steel swing arm also needs to support the heavy saddlebags ect that Randy will throw on them-I don't think the 2014 can hold up that kind of weight without breaking in half.:eek-new:

The parts in question are likely the result of an innovation by Yamaha who developed a vacuum casting process for aluminum. Some light alloy parts are also forged. As just one example, pistons.

Agree. Honda knows its market and will suck in the followers. I've wanted to like the new models year after year but there haven't been enough radical changes (FI excepted) to get me off my '95 750F. (Old dog, old tricks.) The article baited me - again- but I threw the hook after reading the most entertaining flame war thereafter that I've seen in a long time. BTW who died and appointed Bruce Steever God? (Yes, I read MCN.)
