    Hi Tedric
I too need to replace my fuel pump and am looking at the Facet Electronic 40105. My question is how did you wire it up. Do you connect it to the old pumps relay or to the replay power supply side thus cutting the relay out?

Thanks for the good info and mounting idea :)

Funny thing, today I pulled my 86 out of the shed as I hadn't had it running for about 18 months, put a battery in it and when I turned the ignition on the aftermarket pump is obviously pumping too much pressure to the carbs even though I have fitted a bypass pressure relief valve set at 1psi, fuel ended up on the floor. Obviously the needles couldn't shut off against the pump. I disconected the pump at the original connector, fired the motor up and once running reconnected the pump and all is good. I will have to pull the tank again to see what is happening. I think I will get another pump and try that. Tedric, does your pump shut off if the engine isn't running, ignition on or does it continue to run all the time?

Carbs do funny things if you let them sit for a long time. That overflow might not have been from the pump but a stuck float

Like CB1 said that might have been a stuck float or seals that needed fuel again to swell and seal with fuel and time.
Like was said above also does this pump require the fuel cut-off relay to work or does it hook up to power without it?

Thanks for that, it is probably what I thought, needles not seating but I am still trying to find out if the original pump had a pressure switch built in, did they run constantly or did they switch on and off. This is one of the reasons I pushed this bike to the rear of the shed, but it is now up front and I want to get it on the road again

Ok so can anybody tell me if the OEM pump on these ran constantly once the ignition is turned on or did they have a pressure switch fitted internally?

    OEM Fuel pump

    Hi
Yes the OEM Mitsubishi pump has a cut off set of contact operated by a diaphragm when the carbs are full and floats block supply fuel pressure activates a rod connected to a diaphragm that opens the contacts thus switching the pump off.

Thanks a lot Wayne I thought this must be the case, now to try and find a little pressure switch

    Fuel Pump

I'm I going to try the Facet fuel pump https://www.google.co.za/search?q=f...hannel=sb&gfe_rd=cr&ei=T8zMU6b8OJDd8gfFwIG4Cg there web site states that it has a positive shutoff when it reaches pressure. The bloke at the agents hear does not know anything about it and says the pump is noisey. Going to give it a try anyway as its R542.00 compared to Honda Quote of R2600.00 Will post update once it fitted.

Hi Wayne I have been doing a bit of reading up on these pumps, I fitted a Facet style pump and it is noisy, but big deal, at least you know it is running, once the motor is running you can't hear it. Being unsure of what pressure the float needles would shut off against so I put a return circulating line with a pressure regulator in it and set that at 1psi. It seems to work but I was looking for something a bit more simple but everything I have looked at seems to need a return to tank line and the pump runs all the time the ignition is on. Time will tell if this idea works ok. We are not alone with problems with the Mitsubishi pump and they seem to have been fitted to a range of bikes

On another V4 forum I'm on I've read posts of people using a fuel pump from and '83 Honda Civic 1.3l engine. NAPA part #P60408. I don't know if that will work in this case but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks Ed, I had a look at the Honda pump but it doesn't mention if it requires a return to tank line, I'm guessing it does. Would be good if Tedric came back with a report on how he went with his pump, I see he made no mention of a bypass/return to tank on his.
