Saw a 2014 when I picked up my 07 from the dealer. As someone mentioned before, I found the images online to be more favorable than what I saw in person. Opposite situation when I saw a 1200 in person which looked better than any photo taken.

It still looks great but I wasn't too sadden that I was picking up a barely used 07 instead of a new 2014.

It would be nice to know the reason for bringing the 800 back. I do know when I first heard of the 2014 model, I went to my local dealer and asked about it. He wasn't ordering any as sales of the later 6ths gens didn't do well and the 1200 flopped. Other retailers had them in stock.

Side note, it also looked like the CB1100 for 2013 is another flop as it was down to 9800 out the door. There was one in Baltimore where I picked my bike up at marked down to 7799 plus taxes/fees. I was considering the CB as I have a 78 currently all original. The 5 speed transmission on the 2013 is definitely, retro, but the deal breaker was the speed limiter at 112 I believe. I have gone very close to 112 on my 78 CB750 and probably can reach it now since I lost 20lbs. 36 years later the CB1100 is released with an extra 350cc's and Honda limited it to 112. Not a speeder by nature but every once in a while, I have one of those days, and an open highway ahead of me.

Learn a thing from Kawi with their ZRX1200 Honda...

Local dealer quoted me msrp + ca tax / reg OTD, should I bite? I assume that's the going rate since the bike is hot off the press.

Hi. New to the forum and a VFR fan. My last VFR was a 1999 and I loved it. I recently test rode the new 800 and as much as I liked it, it felt too similar to my old bike to convince me I have to own one. The road test was only 15 minutes and not too many twisties, but at this stage unfortunately I'm not convinced. I'm now considering the 1200 as possibly more power is what I want.

You must want LOTS of power. I picked up my new 2014 VFR800F today and love it. I bought from a regional dealer and saved almost $2K when compared to my local city dealer. The ride home was about 150km (I took a few detours) and I have to say I love the bike, absolutely brilliant.

I think you need a longer test ride to be convinced, and maybe find some twisties.

About the CB1100 being a flop. A quick search of my local CL found 2 still new 2013's at dealers, one for 8K and the other for 9K. But the real surprise is that the dealer in town has a 2014 Deluxe at $10,799. MSRP on those is $11,899 so that's $1,100 off already! I'll have to stop by there and see if they have even sold 1 of them or if its the same one they have had. This is a new dealer, they opened this summer, so they haven't had the bike very long. They had MSRP marked on it last time I was there, maybe a month ago.

I dunno....I was very excited about the CB1100 when I first heard about it and was ready to get one when they came out. Even had the go ahead from the wife, but when they hit the dealers and I actually saw one.....they are just kinda boring and I hated the exhaust. Then I heard about the deluxe with the 4-2 exhaust coming and got excited about that, but then when it hit it was $11,899. So we went from the 2013 with MSRP under 10k to almost 12k just like that.

To me that's very steep for the bike. I'm sure its a quality bike and will last forever but for $400 less I can get a Ducati Monster 821. Sure, two completely different machines but to me its what I would compare the CB1100 with because of the price point and style of bike. Now I am considering either the Monster 821 Dark or the Yamaha FZ-09.

I want to like the CB1100 and I'm glad they came out with it, but now that its time to get one I'm gonna have to pass on it.

Yes, as much as I like the refinements of the new model, I think more power is what I am looking for. Don't take me wrong, its probably just me, but after the test ride I felt I had done the 800 with my previous bike and what I really want is more grunt.
Then I had another thought today, (just thinking aloud here), if I were to buy a used low mileage 5th gen I could rebuild it like new, kit it out with ohlins shock, upgrade the front shocks, reposition the bars etc, and for the master stroke fit it with the notorious blower kit featured on you tube a few years back. (that is if it is still available) That is potentially a VFR I could live with. Any thoughts on this idea appreciated!

Think you'd be better of trying to find a used CBR1100XX. It wouldn't be as cool as 5th Gen with a blower, but I think it would be a lot easier to live with.

You could always try and talk Toro out of his bike. I haven't seen a post from him in years maybe he's bored with the supercharged orange fifth gen.

Apologies if I'm getting off subject on this thread. I have turned it into what are my alternatives to the new VFR 800. Maybe I should be posting elsewhere. One more question though, I do not know that much about the bike but could I be a candidate for a VFR 1200?

I have had some big motored bikes in the past and they are always fun to me, at least for a while. But then when I get on something with less motor, all of a sudden I am having a lot more fun! Maybe its just me with power. I find that the 800 is plenty for normal street use. Now if I were on a track, I am sure I would want a hotter motor! But for a mid-sized sport touring type of machine, it seems like the VFR is a hard machine to beat.

As far as an alternative to the 800..... I still kind of like the Ninja 1000 for a bigger motored bike. I actually found a couple a great deals on some last year but the cost of insurance very quickly steered me away from that and back to the VFR. My Dad has an older BMW K1200GT. It is big on power but does not ride like a huge bike. If he ever goes to get rid of it, I just might try and get it from him.

I like the Multistrada as an all-around.
The VFR doesn't have very much power, but I find it has enough for the real world.

    If I might?

Not too long ago I had a conversation like this, on this very board (as well as a couple others)... The Diavel Strada; 162HP, under 500 pounds wet, more comfortable than my VFR (especially for the pillion), with bags... I'm just saying...

As for our regular programming (of this thread), as I've said, if they make an anniversary edition (RWB), I may have to get one of these "new" VFRs (deluxe) to ADD to the stable... The VFR will always have nostalgic purpose for me.

I am debating new VFR, or new house windows and furniture.
