I'm looking for a solid way to mount my Android phone to my '06 for GPS purposes, and I'd heard that there's a mounting system that connects to the plug in the center of the handlebar. Has anyone found something like that before, and have any input on how well that works?

Here is my setup. I have different "heads" that hold different things. This one just has velcro on it and I stick my phone to it. I have another one that the GPS goes on. All of them are 'Ram Mounts'. I prefer it here because it doesn't get in the way of gauges or anything.

So is "RAM Mount" the term to look for when looking for something that connects into the port in the middle of the handlebar?

RAM mount is a series of physical device mounts that is very popular and very flexible. I would definitely recommend RAM mounts. Personally, I use their 'x grip' for my phone. The cool thing is that you can mount anything in the x-grip. Any phone. Any GPS. Etc, etc. And the mounts are compatible with the whole system. So you can use it on the bike, on the boat, in the car. I have RAM mount balls on all my bikes and a suction cup mount ball for the car.

I think you're asking about power. I'm no help there.

Thank you for all the helpful advice. This and a little digging online took me to rammount.com, which has a fantastic Wizard to determine the right product for your specific phone/GPS and bike. The key turned out to be this stem that mounts in the middle of the handlebar. For the full arrangement, it's looking like I'll be out around $55. That's not too bad. http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResu...d/082065077045066045051052050085/Default.aspx

sunofwolf, I can't quite tell what that is in the center of your handlebar, but it's definitely not stock! I've got a convenient hole there for mounting my phone.

I had to modify my ram mount a little to my liking, but it works great. And s.o.w. is showing a steering stabilizer that isn't stock. Why he posted it here I have no clue as it isn't pertinent to the thread.

its thin alum actually, mine was on my 2007 at least. It isnt going to go back on as tight once you take it off. likely you wont ever want/need to remove the ball mount anyway so not sure why its an issue.

You're right. The ram ball will stay on forever, so there isn't any issue. I'll just go ahead and order the RAM ball.

    Thanks!

Get the Ram Mount adaptor that fits the steering stem. That way you dont have to modify anything like the previous video. I have had mine on my VFR for 4 or 5 years now. No DSC02158.jpg problems. I think the whole kit including the ball mount was $60!

How does it fit the stem? Can you explain/post a pic of how it attaches to the stem, without the device?

    Thanks,
