I dropped a broom handle on my bike and it's dented. SOB.

Suck, the double wall may prevent a repair

I'm going to weigh my options. I doubt Dent Wizard can fix the tiny ding due to the double wall as mentioned earlier. If I sell the bike, it all goes as a package. Too much work to part out and return to stock. So sorry. New tanks are about 9 bills. That's a giant amount of money, but, it may be worth it. Or, as stated earlier, it goes on Craigslist.

9 bills! Is that new and with major shipping charges? My 09 tank got dented and a new one from Partzilla is only $494. I haven't replaced it as its not a big deal to me.

Not sure what year you are looking for but there was an 02 tank that was on eBay with little to no bidders for $22. It's gone now, ended with no winning bid?! There are at least a few right now for less than $300 all in pretty good condition.

I've been searching. It's gotta be pristine, because that's just how I am. I'll look at Partzilla. 005.jpg

If some of you knuckleheads think this is funny, then don't respond; just go pound salt.

Partzilla's lists the tank as "obsolete" which is why other sites can command the outrageous price. Such is life.

I would seriously consider trying PDR from a place such as Dent Wizard. PDR generally requires direct access to the back side of the panel in question and to the best of my knowledge the tank itself is not double walled. I have personally fixed a dent in the tank of my 2000 VFR800 after a block of wood fell off a shelf beside the bike this last winter and landed just to the rear of the filler nozzle about 3" from the back edge of the filler nozzle.

Another method that could be employed with PDR is using a glue tab system to repair the dent. This process involves using a plastic stud that is glued to the outside of the tank and pulling the dent out using a slide hammer style puller or squeeze handle style puller. Depending on how severe the dent is the glue tab system might be able to pull the dent without the need to gain access to the back of the dent through the filler neck. The following photo is a before photo of a dent that I repaired on Wednesday this last week using the glue tab method as I could not gain access to the dent through the filler nozzle.

In the case of this bike the repair was not completely perfect due to the obvious severity of the damage, but the dent on your tank does not appear to be anywhere near as bad. Give PDR a try, it would be worth the time to at least check out the option.

I have quotes for Dent Wizards and such. They want more than my 100 dollar deductible, so it's probably going to be a claim and a new tank. I don't like putting in claims, so I am mulling it over. I don't relish the idea of putting the fuel pump and send units and all that kind of thing, but I can take my time and ride my other bike. IDK. Anyhow, thanks for telling me this. I appreciate your input.

Are you thinking of selling the bike because the tank now has a dent?

I think the VFR is too much bike for you.

Seriously - selling it becuase of a "tiny ding" (you words)? I like my stuff to be mint as well, but shit happens. If you can't fix it, then so what. Doesn't change the ability of the bike.

But wouldn't a double wall tank prevent that? I need advice from an expert. TIA.
