Will a 2002 header fit a 2001?

I found some used 2002 headers super cheap. I would like to put them on my 2001 after painting if they will fit. Has anyone done this?

I'm 99% sure they do fit, but suppose you should wait for confirmation.

Yep, same thing. Most people though will look for 98-99 headers for their 6th gen because there is no cat. But from 00-09 I believe they are the same.

Additionally, the 98-99 headers are a couple of millimeters larger than years 2000 and up, so there's a little more room to breath.

If you do end up with the 98-99 with no cat, there's a simple fix for the 02 sensors by simply bypassing them with a 330ohm resistor. About $2 at radio shack.

I just picked up a 2000. Noisy TB system without O2 bungs , O2 censers tye wrapped to brake line. Can't find mention of CAT in shop manuel. Would like to score a OEM exhaust system. Only found later Cat systems so far.

Note that the later cat systems are a bit different, at least when I look at my '01 and '09 bikes. The later models also have a little tab on the end of the cat that is the center stand stop. This is not present on the 00-01 headers, as it is on the mid-pipe. Also, if memory serves me correctly, the way the cat attaches to the bike is a little different as well. If you want I can try and take some pics of both my bikes so you can see the difference.

    Cheers

Last ones to go maybe. All of the ones near me are empty buildings now. Grab what you can, while you can I guess.

Quit being such a nitpicker, OOTV. Your lips are moving but all I hear is blah blah blah I'm a filthy little whore. lol. Anyway....

mhass - let me ask you something. You're saying you have a noisy two brothers system without 02 bungs. So there's no cat on that system? If that's a FULL 2 brother system with the headers being S/S, you have a highly coveted piece of equipment there (I know - I had one on my bike). Coming across a full TB S/S system is like finding a bigfoot riding on a unicorn.

Here's a picture of what you'd need to do with those 02 sensors that are wrapped to the bike. I ran my bike like this for years, with never a hiccup. Full TBR system, K&N, and didn't even have a PC.

Note the tabs on the connectors and insert resistors as shown. I did this on my '03 when I had it. Bend wires so resistors are snug to connector, tape up and tuck into boot.

Installed a set of 330s this evening. First run up feels good. Not as much un burned fuel trying to kill me in A/Ced garage. Yes , exhaust is full S/S system with K&N. PO claimed Ti. Thank you
