Which of you bikes is that off of? Does anyone know if those will fit a 6th gen? Those would be one hell of a lot easier to clean than the stock 6th gen wheels or the 8 spoke rear everyone is trying to find. I am sorta tiring of cleaning mine.

Be happy to swap you for a semi gloss black 5th gen wheel Randy. I'm pretty sure those wheels come from a bike with a standard style swing arm. :(

Having a somewhat shorter and younger individual with boundless energy that loves cleaning the bike as much as I do might also come in handy. Not to mention the smaller hands make cleaning the spokes a lot easier. LOL

I see little point in panting vfr wheels-the silver ones are fine and easy to clean, but I paint my srt-4 wheels black with Walmart caliper paint it sticks to anything.:joker:

What's this PITA cleaning wheels I hear. I suppose those that ride and ride and use it for daily transportation yea ok what ever. But the vfr to me is worth the energy to clean. Now on the wheel painting, I'm powder coating, trick is finding the right color, leaning a bit towards a deep bronze magnesium. but those white ones on the right bike are HOT! Now where's that 8 spoke hiding?

You mean like this one. Believe it or not, that wheel was freshly coated white. But this was taken near the end of a three day ride through your fine state.

Generally the larger the powdercoating facility the greater choice of colors, gloss levels and textures. The larger outfits unlike the "botiques" many times charge less. Check around first and maybe do a search for powdercoaters in the industrial areas of Tacoma and Seattle.

Color charts are on the net..If you decide to do your own stripping, it has to all come off. Avoid the hydroxide base strippers on aluminum alloy. Resist masking is usually charged by the hour.

So IMO painting is not a bad idea at all.

Yep yep and more yep. More than likely I'll be bead blasting as the wheels I'm finding are well, pretty bad. Then the $$ they want for em.. almost nutz. One thing that did surprise me was the wheel is made by Enkie, go figure. I'll just keep looking, make for a great winter project. If one can call this fun, it sorta is trying to nail down a color. The adventure continues.

What would be cool is a vid of the process on something close to a bike wheel. Another process that has not been covered,is electrostatic application. The material is a catalytic given a positive charge. The object is given a negative charge. Takes some special equipment and unless careful the rig can zap ya.. The process allows for painting around corners. One use is painting guard rails on high rise porches, lanais. Wrought iron work and screens that cannot be removed in some systems. Limited colors. The material is bulletproof when cured.

The Rustoleum High Temperature rattlecan paints in black are actually good for up to 1200F. They are silicone based and need to be cured. The best way is to put your car in gear and fully depress both the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal. This should generate sufficient heat to cure the paint. Try to arrange some running room if one foot or the other gets tired. Short piers are not recommended.

If you must huff the stuff, invert the cans. It's not so much the paint that is eating what remains of your brain cells but more the propellants and associated solvents. Black paint in your nostrils and on your upper lip are a dead giveaway. This could cause you being a known dude around the town tweakers and they will come and steal your cats.
