Lint you can prise up the dust seals (lever them up with a small sharp screwdriver, they're just pressed into the top of the leg) and slide those out of the way if that will make it easier to access the oil seal. Then tap them back in when you are done.

You can try a really thin feeler gauge to clean a seal.

    Yes, I'm super excited!!
I do have plenty of music as that's my best friend while on the road.

I'm purchasing the compressor and a few more things. Yes, I have plug kit and extra fuses, levers, bulbs, bolts, zip ties, tool kit, portable battery charger/jump starter. Probably too much.

More bike stuff than clothing. Lol
He's getting loaded today. I'll post later.

Yes, a great outing is always a great thing to do.. thanks, didn't think hooking both lines to the Master, that seems a wee bit easier than taking and installing a bridge line. Maybe ;)

I did slide the dust seal up. I can get it under the dust seal, but so far not into the oil seal. I'll try the thin feeler gauge.

Ok, I tried the thinnest feeler gauge I had and I think all it did was F up the seal, it was .008" thick or .203mm thick. I also noticed a very small divot out of the fork stanchion and surprise surprise, it's leaking there. It's probably less than a millimeter deep, but my guess is that it is enough that the seal is compromised there. FML.

Don't fret, check out this post. Although you'll most likely have to replace the seals, you might be able to salvage the fork tube.

The nick is really small, I'm probably overreacting, but maybe I'll get a"professional " opinion. I'll see if a can catch a fingernail on it. I'll also see if I can find some fine sandpaper and give it a polish.

Dents in the fork leg are usually little impact craters with raised edges, and it is the raised edges that eat seals (and killer whales, they eat seals too). I have had good results using a fine, flat file to take off any high spots, then follow up with 600 or finer grit sandpaper to polish the dent. I guess you could fill and sand the dent with JBWeld or similar if needed.

Hi Ann Marie ... It's awesome to be heading off on a trip, good riding and stay safe.
So funny that your bike is a "he" of course mine is a "she" ... If I may offer some advice as you head off, I have always found it prudient to listen to my gut feeling (your inner voice) and have s great time... Looking forward to your photos too and any lesson you learn along the way, my wife and I are planning a 2 week trip at end of year

Haha, yeah, it shows attraction that's for sure! His name is Haku, after a white spirit dragon with a green mane in a Studio Ghibli movie. I like to think I'm flying while riding. :D

Thank you, that is great advice!!
I'll do just that. I've learned over the years to listen to my gut and be wise. We'll see how well I do...

    Fiddled with packing today.
