I was wondering? how old were you when you started riding and do you think you will get too old to ride? I think I am a mid-life crisis. I turned 50 this year I have been riding M/C since high school. Dirt bikes mostly in the beginning. Too many to count or remember them all. I bought a new 06 VFR to replace my old 86 VFR with. I love the bike the speed the handling, the looks, other peoples attention, except the LEO's. which I have been quite lucky so far. praise to whatever supreme being there may be. you all mostly seem very young:usa2:

I am 32. I started riding snowmobiles (Artic Kat Kitty Kat) at age 4, and quads when I was probably 8, and then dirtbikes shortly there after. I bought my first street bike (FZR600) at age 17. My brother came home on a 1985 FJ600 when I was 14, and when I rode it I thought it was the fastest thing on the planet, that was, until I brought home the Fizzer...

I believe you should ride as long as you feel capable. The reason that I do not say as long as you are alive, is because there is a large number of seniors (my grandpa who passed included) who should not have had their license renewed....man, he scared the living daylights out of me. I loved him to death, but he should not have been driving. 50 years old is like 40 these days.... you are still a young buck with plenty of juice left in ya!

I'm 35, I started riding when I was 10 on a mini bike, then to Honda XL 250 & Suzuki TS250, then two different Yamaha IT250's. Started riding the street @ 16 1968 Honda CB350, 1973 Honda CB350, 1983 Yamaha Maxim, 1985 Honda Nighthawk S, 1987 Yamaha Venture Royale, 1998 Yamaha Warrior ATV,1990 Suzuki DR350, 1993 Suzuki DR350S & finally 1986 VFR700F. Also a pile of snowmobiles from age 12 on won't bore you w/ the details. Short list for the next ride Venture Royale(loved that bike), K1200LT, Mid 90's CB1000, ZRX1100/1200, Valkyrie, VTX, ST1100, FJR,Blackbird, CBR1000F, if the money fairy visits before then a new Concours or one the sportier BMW K bikes & of course a newer VFR would always be welcome in the stable.

As far as age, I think as long as I can throw my leg over a bike I'll be riding; if I can't get my leg over then I'll consider one of the super scooters like the Silverwing or Burgman or the Can Am Spyder trike.

Famous quote: "You don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stop riding"

    50. Started riding when I was 14 got my licence the day I turned 15. The then legal age in New Zealand. Took a long break after 15 years of riding and came back to it 4 years ago. I am sure some would call it a mid-life crisis but I think of it as reasserting my basic character (the addiction came back). Mind you I raced bicycles for ten years while I didn't have an M/C so I never really left the two wheeled world. Still love riding, the body doesn't handle it as well as it used to but you adjust your style to compensate. Do you get too old? I don't think so, but I am sure there will come a time when the judgement skills, balance, eyesite or something will make it too dangerous to ride but I think that is more an individual thing than directly related to age. I certainly don't plan to stop anytime soon.

I turned 50 this year too, so you're not alone, Danimal. Does that officially make us "old farts"?
Been riding for about 33 years. Always owned a Honda. I love my VFR as well.
I'll stop riding when I can't swing my leg over the seat any more. Or I'll just buy a scooter...

I'll be 34 in 6 days & have been riding since my 14th birthday. I'l stop when I'm not physically able to ride anymore. To expand on that, when I feel I'm a threat to myself or surrounding traffic, then it's time to quit.

    KC-10 FE out...

I am 24 and have been riding since I was 22, the VFR is my first bike, other than it I have only ever ridden harleys that belonged to other people. I look forward to many years of two wheeled fun!
And they are right, 50 is the new 40 (or 35) you are only as old as you feel.

35 and have been riding on two wheels as long as I can remember. My nickname from my grandpa was Scooter because I wore the wheels of every scooter toy I had. He taught me to ride a bike with no training wheels at 3 or 4 years and I got my first very own motorcycle at 6 but I pretty much was on bike as soon as I was able to sit up.

That reminds me of one of the locals guys around here; he owned a Yamaha dealership in the next town over for years. I think it was two years ago I watched him racing dirt track on late 40's Harley @ 82 years old. If I remember right it was more of a ceremonial thing but the old guy could still run.

52 in a few weeks, AND LOVIN IT!, the looks when I get off the vfr, and they see an "old guy" take off the helmet, especially after I run thru the twisties faster than the kids do, man I love that! always get comments.

Danimal, 50 is'nt old unless you think it is, and its NOT a mid-life crisis, we can just afford to do things for ourselves now, we have paid our dues, done the kids thing, back to us now, have fun!

I ride with a buddy and his Dad, he's 82, on a 1100 Virago, waay cool.
I had a customer stop in today, on a R-1, he's 63, rides with a guy and his son, Dad is 93, sons "only" in his 70's

I've had my bike license for 36 years, been thru alot of bikes, mini bikes, anything with a motor I wanted to ride, as everyone else seems to agree with,,, as long as I can get my leg over the seat, and be safe, I'm ridin!!

    I feel better now
i was just wondering if I was the only one on a sport bike I just got back from a ride and I love it. It gives me the best feeling. takes me 10 minutes to get the grin off my face. Sure you can find lots of us old farts on Hardly's but, Most of the sport bike crowd is young (Early twenties). I am with you I'll stop when I can't swing my leg over the seat anymore. I like the way that sounds.

Oh been riding since I was 9 or was that 8, anyway it's been awhile.

In August I will be 40. Some days I feel older, others I feel younger. Just depends on the day I guess. But I have spent many years riding bikes, mostly dirt bikes, but I do love riding street bikes. It is also a little easier on my wallet since they use less gas.

36 years old here. Started out riding on 3 wheel ATCs and snowmobiles when I was pretty young, moved on to dirt bikes around the age of 16. Took some years off riding here and there as I got my career going, but really didn't get serious about riding on the street until 5-6 years ago.

I plan to ride till I'm wheeled into the old folks home.

49 now. Retired from racing last year. Started on a Honda CT70 at age 9.
I've got a sidecar rig for when I get too old, maybe in another 30 years, it will become my only mode.

From a chronological standpoint, 57. From an emotional standpoint, considerably younger. I try to act my age, but I'm never sure which one.

EDIT: First bike...clapped out Triumph 250cc Tiger Cub in 1965.

If you just turned 50 and bought your first bike this year, that would be a classic midlife crisis decision - what you are doing is called continuing an interest.
I bought my first motorcycle at 17, I'm now 41. I know shit can happen, but barring something unforseen my 2000 VFR is probably my last bike. When it becomes too uncomfortable I won't go to a 'Wing, I'll go to a convertible. I'm guessing I'll be 60, but who knows - I feel confident the VFR will go for as long as I want it to.
