Wow. Been revisiting my desire to own a VFR, remembered this forum & casually logged in for a minute or two to catch up on things VFR. Many, many hours later and well past midnight I finally made it to page 28. What a wonderful experience riding pillion with a true adventurer armed with little more than positive determination & a winning smile, meeting all the great community minded VFRWorld types along the way. In my corner of the world we see little of life in America other than the usual & predictable negative images. Truely fantastic to see real life as if I was there. Magic writing by a beautiful person. Thanks from the other side of the planet.

Aww, dfh, I'm so honored you took the time to journey through the thread and that you enjoyed it so!
Thank you for your kind comments!

The experience was amazing due to the people from here on the forum and those I met along the way.
Regularly ordinary people really are great here and in Canada, and I'm sure from your part of the world!
I will moto adventure in your land someday and it will be fun to experience your peoples!

I hope you get yourself a VFR and plan yourself some amazing adventures!

Just remember to get out there and do it. Don't expect perfect, allow yourself to feel a twinge of frustration or fear if needed, but as soon as the feeling hits, back it up with a smile and a thankful heart. Things will never go too wrong if you remember that...and the fact that you are on an amazing moto trip that not too many people have the chance to experience.

Let us know WHEN you get your VFR ;) and share photos! :)

Thank you again for your reading and comments!

Yup, you just have to DO IT.

The low points of your trip will be the most memorable - if something doesn't go wrong, you won't have much of a story to tell and laugh about after the trip. :)

I try to have this attitude about everything, but being the engineer that I am, I always wind up at the glass being twice as big as it needs to be. What does that make me? Positive? Negative? Cynical?

Did you keep a diary of your daily exploits? Or which way you went and when you experienced good and bad events? Or are you more like me. Meant to, but didn't .

Yes, I made notes on my itinerary if I deviated anywhere. Notes on this thread, Facebook, and Twitter help me remember events. Some of them were just so darn crazy I'll never forget them...like Vegreville on the 16. Lolzzzzz

    No worries!

Of course! I'm not new to moto-touring, in the last 12 months I've done two tours to the Snowy Mountains on the east coast via the Great Ocean Road along the southern coast of eastern Australia, each trip covering over 5200km over 8 riding days. These trips book-ended a 10 day riding tour of Italy from Rome through Tuscany, across the Futa Pass to Bologna then to Milan & up to the Dolomite mountains. Ive been lucky enough to moto-tour across Australia, Japan & most of Europe over the years (but not the US or Canada... yet!) and the good news is that feeling of connection with yourself & complete joy of living in the moment that is motorcycling on tour that you captured in your reports beautifully, doesn't decline over time. Got the bug? Got it forever!

My current sport touring bike has 160,000km on the clock (never used as a commuter) and is showing its age, hence my interest in VFR's. WHEN I get one, photo's WILL follow.

WOWZERS!! I'd say you are no stranger to mototouring!! You've got so many kms under your belt it's insanse!! I can't wait to travel overseas to mototour. Isle of Man and Ireland, Scotland, England will be some of my first. When you come to U.S. and Canada, look up some of us fine peeps here!

    THIS...you are soooooo right!!
My wild heart was satisfied for a while, but I'm already itching for my next go. Longer too. I can't wait for a 12,000 mile go. It's one of few things that I constantly think about!! It's definitely part of me and I need to tour to feed my soul.

That I will. Never been to America but may have the chance soon through work.... As motorcycle bike prices are absurdly cheap in the USA have even mulled over the idea of buying a bike then riding east to west. The need to dream goes hand in hand with the moto-tourist mind:smile-new:

Here's an left-field thought. In the UK they drive on the left. Not only that its amazing how many people live on those tiny isles. Its well crowded & traffic is intense!

Maybe a trip down under when its deep winter in the northern hemisphere & summer down this way would be better way to first btry riding on the left-hand-side & build up to traffic on the old dart. As an Australian its sacrilege to say this (bit like an American recommending Canada!) but New Zealand is a brilliant place to moto-tour with amazing alpine regions & plenty of space to camp-out, low population density & fantastic twisty roads. Not only that but their exchange rate with your dollar is good & they speak english... more or less. Just a thought!

lol... Yeah you got it... or its got you. As addictions go its a top draw choice & never done me any harm (lol...) so no need for therapy...

12000 miles is a long way. Real Charley & Ewan stuff! Its funny how we new-world types think a long day is 1000km/650m plus. Ive regularly done 1000km days in Australia but trust me 300km days in the Alps or Dolomites is intense stuff.... the coffee & food is good though!

Holy...you should really do that when you come here! You would get a super taste of all the terrains we have in the states by going east to west. Same as if you did east to west Canada. Soooo beautiful...even the flat parts have their own beauty to them (mostly in skyscapes).

I was just talking yesterday about my desire to do the entire perimiter of the U.S. and go up into Gaspe Peninsula and Nova Scotia again. So that will be the hugest trip I'd take so far...about 12,000 miles. Yes, going 600-800 miles in day is a good day for me, but in some good mountains a couple hundred would be enough. This last trip was like that. Some short days because of terrain or sightseeing.

I hadn't considered Australia for a first, but definitely at the top it is, especially New Zealand. Thanks for sharing those points about lefty driving, traffic, exchange rates! I'll become a world moto-traveler soon! :)

Googled that.. wow that sure is a trip & a half!... Mexico as well?

2nd Left of field thought... Are you Canadian? If so, a francophone? France is a brilliant place to Moto-tour (much better than the UK...) ... and the food is good and the weather is better and they drive on the right... just freethinking...

I so want to hit Australia and NZ ... I'd love to dive the Great Barrier Reef while I'm there.

She wants to be a Canadian. She's practically a Canadian, Eh!!! Lolzzz :)

I just need to teach her how to tap maple trees for syrup, wrangle moose, and how to lumberjack ...
