Well I am over a month late to this thread. I have no idea how I missed the great adventure of Anne Marie.

Oh Anne Marie you have some stories to tell I see. From here to there and obstacles and such. The VFR folks you met along the way and how great they have been to guide and help along the way. All of you that have guided and helped Anne Marie take a bow as you are what make motorcycling such a great experience. I just wish I would have seen this earlier as it is a great read and pictorial.

You made a successful adventure that you can tell stories about for the rest of your life. There are many motorcyclist that would not attempt a solo ride like this. My hat is off to you. I have done a few solo rides but nothing to this extent, maybe family, work, my age, the unknown may be contributing factors as to why, I just don't know.

I think it would be interesting now that you have completed the ride and you have had some time to reflect to have some thoughts on what you would change for your next adventure. The riding gear, how much stuff you packed and didn't use but thought you needed. Things you should have brought with and didn't, Timing, the time of year and the destinations. Things you should learn about the moto, how friendships are built and how that influenced what you did and learned. What were those thoughts you had on those skinny two lane roads in the middle of nowhere. Wow just wow I can't imagine.

With your new found experiences, your writing skills, your pictures and such I think you have more than enough material to write a great article for Rider or Roadrunner magazine.

Speaking of magazines in this months (September) Rider magazine Clement Salvador has an article that reminds me of you "Peace of Mind vs. Getting Lost"

Take care and I am waiting for the next great Anne Marie adventure.

And besides, there was always a VFRW member close enough to give her directions. LOL.

Awww, grabcon, I'm so happy you were able to experience some of my journey through the thread!
Thank you for your time and comments!

It was truly an adventure made possible by my friends here at VFRW.
I know I've said it before...but I really never felt alone and I cannot thank and hug my friends here enough for it.

A journey like this takes immense amounts of physical endurance, but mental endurance is just as important.
The friends here and back home helped so much with the latter part.

Although I never felt alone, I was very much physically traveling alone the majority of the trip, and experienced so much by myself that I just have bottled up inside of me still.

    And this...

"The riding gear, how much stuff you packed and didn't use but thought you needed. Things you should have brought with and didn't, Timing, the time of year and the destinations. Things you should learn about the moto, how friendships are built and how that influenced what you did and learned. What were those thoughts you had on those skinny two lane roads in the middle of nowhere."

....this is part of what draws me to travel into the unknown.

The feelings, the thoughts, the emotions, the challenges, the joys, all my senses being alive even to feel struggle and pain...all the good, all the bad...all the life I feel when on an adventure...that's living.

I'm working on my report from the trip. It is definitely going to finish on the long side. Maybe I could submit to a magazine and see what others think...see if I have something different and interesting to bring to the table of riding.

I just hope that I can be an inspiration to anyone, especially women, so others just get out and ride life.

I'll have to look up that article you mentioned, thank you for mentioning it. :)

I only crave my next adventure.

I will have another epic solo journey, while hoping to meet up with more VFRW riders along the way.

Next solo ride: the perimeter of the United States up into Gaspe Peninsula again.

For now, a weekend trip to Colorado Springs will happen before I head back to another school year. :)

Awesome, sounds great! I'll defintely see if you'd be around. :)

I will be on the moto. Unfortunately I won't have a week, but the positive is that CO isn't too far away!

I hope to make more mini trips that way to explore the area more, as well as Utah.

Diggin this back up and wondering......Did you ever figure out the electrical gremlin that was causing the problem? Did I miss the answer? Has it occurred any more? I was wondering because I got soaked in a huge storm out of nowhere the other day. Did not have any problems but I began to think of AM in the rain and hoping I would not have similar problem. Getting ready to take a small trip and running through items that I need to doublecheck before leaving. thx

    Hey there, gigem!

Thanks for the giggle about the rain.
I was just thinking about my hard rain days I had on this trip. Notably 5 hours on way to Edmonton and the 6 hours of freezing rain onVancouver Island on the way to Tofino. Lolzzz

    To answer your question...NO

There were some things that I believed helped:

    Dielectric grease on a connectors

    New battery

    Checked and cleaned grounds

Removed shizzy USB chargers/leads from battery

Tightened battery leads which was causing issues

Recently new harness with larger gauge wiring for stator and RR...never had multimeter readings so high for charging system, so I'm happy with those results.

BUT...went to turn on moto the other day, rode 15 mins, shut it off to tall to bank teller, turned back on (by key...no more touching killswitch)...the moto hiccupped for a split second uoon turning over then started full up....complete dash reset.

    ARGHHHH....not even a rainy day.

Lately, I've been having sluggish starts again, even after the beefed up wiring.

    I'm convinced I have a short somewhere.
Every single wire needs dealt with.

Where are you running off to?
    Can I go?!!! :)
Hope your moto is tiptop for the trip!!

Well, I was hoping you finally found the culprit for peace of mind, at least. I am one of the few that still need to beef up my wiring like many others have done. Needless to say, reading all the people with problems has it constantly in the back of my mind. Last time I took apart my connectors for stator and such, nice and clean and no evidence of heat or anything. I sprayed Deoxit in them before putting back together as a little precaution. I am not taking long trip, just couple hundred miles down south to visit the folks over weekend since it seems to be finally cooling off down here. Ya'll need to organize that Midwestern R3 for us folks not on the west coast but central U.S. and we meet up and go riding. Think that would be fun

I was trying to plan an annual Black Hills gathering, but there were only a few interested people.

Sounds like a sweet short ride! Hope you have a super time! And your moto behaves! Good sign your connectors looked clean!

In a couple weeks imma heading myself to AR or CO to check out the fall foliage...if weather looks good.

Yess!! We should bring some fun to Ole Kansas...or north a bit! It is right in the middle. South Dakota would be amazing for the roads and worth the extra ride through KS and NE.

We do need to get on that!!

    Have a super trip!!

    Thanks, AM.

I remember Jeff saying something about maybe putting together something for around September next year and that is what I was referring to. Think you said something about this year but little too early and quick for everyone. Maybe next year??
