GP Shift - Has Anyone Figure Out How To Do It

    I would love to have my VFR shift pattern be the same as my race/track bike (2010 Ninja 250) just to avoid having shift issues on

    race day. I'm wondering if anyone out there has figured out how to reverse the shift pattern on their Gen 8. I wish

    it was as easy to do as it was on my GSXR but the shift rod is entirely encased on this VFR which probably means

    a lot of work and a lot of money.



    Just curious if I'm the only one who wants to do this on the Gen 8.

    Shouldn't be too difficult, but you probably are looking at aftermarket rearsets and a custom linkage...I was thinking of trying to do such on my 5th get. If i get around to it, i'll post a write up...

    I flipped my OEM quickshifter around for a temp solution to this. Might even get a Dyno jet switch or something and see if I can't re-gain the QS function.

    Progress. OEM QS lever, rod, and shaft arm, plus a right hand heim joint from woodcraft. I know that the woodcraft lever bolts on, but haven't the time tonight to experiment.

    All you'd need to do is to remove the linkage, and have a lever that is attached right on to the shaft. Correct?

    The lever attached to the shaft is how it is set up stock. This is for reverse shift. The OEM quick shift adds the linkage but with the spline arm pointing up

    Well, for the RC51's, they were adding a linkage set-up from a CBR1000, I believe. That photo tricked me into believing there was already a linkage.

    GP Shift with OEM QS

    Why did you need the Woodcraft him joint and do you have the part number? Just bought a new 2014 VFRFD and ordered Honda QS. Have been GP shifting my Ducati's for years and want to have the VFR the same.

    Stock setup. Lifting shifter pushes on linkage and switch to activate QS.
    In the GP setup you would be pulling on the linkage which would not activate switch.
    Only way I can see to use Honda's QS would be to use non-QS linkage to shift and make a custom bracket on the back side just for the QS switch to push on it simultaneously.

    Or, go from inverted lever on left up to to stationary mounting bolt with custom brackets.

    Wouldn't I swap the QS linkage end for end to get it in a "pull" action again?

    That is what you would initially think. It has to do with rotating the left end linkage 180 degrees which then changes the pressure on the linkage from pushing when you lift shifter with your toe to up shift, to press on shifter to up shift in GP style, isn't that what you want?

    Flipping the lever end-for-end wouldn't make a difference. Stock configuration: QS linkage is in compression on upshifts which activates the cut. GP Style: QS linkage would be in tension on upshifts. What is pictured above will probably work for GP shift, although a non-QS linkage will probably get in the way less. Also, that spline arm seems to be rather low & hanging out: without checking angles I'd be concerned it may touch down when leaned over to the left. Maybe look around for a shorter spline arm if it is an issue?

    Not sure, except the QS was added in 2014 and Larry fro BLS shop said his blocks wouldn't work on the newer bikes. Best to check with Sato Racing, looks like nice stuff.

    I disagree. Flipping the QS linkage end-for-end and reversing the splined lever 180 degrees from stock will put the QS switch in compression. The challenge is in getting the hiem joint connections at the splined lever end and the shift lever end to mount properly. It can be done and I'm going to tackle it in a few weeks but am using the stock QS configuration for the time being.

    Re-read my post #9, flipping the linkage 180 degrees does not change the action.
