Correct, you can get into 3rd a couple of times but most of the time is just easy low rpm second gear, dogging it in tight corners and not bothering to shift to 1st. I have rode it aggressively on a 75 RD 350 a bunch of times way back in the day. I personally like bigger more open sweeper roads. Deals Gap is fun and the bike collection at the Gap is usually worth checking out. I think Killboy and the other guy shooting photos makes it more dangerous as people are looking at them or riding to aggressively for a "cool" photo op.

Looks like a great road. Road surface quite clearly isn't as good as the Dragon. Twisty, but no cigar. Besides, where are the Harley's, lol.

Very nice. Don't see that it's as challenging as the Gap.

Depends what you're riding. A liter bike that does 120 mph in second gear? Yes it's 2nd all the way.

So you haven't actually been down there. Instead of making annual trips to the Dragon, why not plan a trip to California before you make the statement that deal's gap is the "be all end all" of sport bike riding on the planet?

Look, I'm not saying the Dragon isn't a fun stretch of road. It is. All I can do is say subjectively where I'd rather ride a sportbike. The dragon wouldn't even be my first choice for the east coast. Our California members really are lucky they live where they do. If you want the bike culture atmosphere, go visit the Rock store or Alice's.

" Our California members really are lucky they live where they do."

Is that why Hillary is now saying she's going to put a fence up around California?

Saying Deal's Gap is the best road to ride is like saying any other road or place is the best to ride or, in another way, "my d-ck is bigger than your d-ck because we have this road and you don't."

Are you saying there's better motorcycle country on the left side of 100degrees west?! Really? I'm shocked. Well, no.

The absolute best road to ride is the Trans Canada between Winnipeg and Calgary.

Seems to me the tail is as much about the destination, as it is the ride. I am betting it was a better ride before commercialism moved in. Probably makes for much more frequent repaving tho .

The best road to ride is the one that's easiest to get to, the best roads to travel to depends as much on the destination and it's flavor if you will. Everyone is gonna have different tastes, smooth pavement, certain types of curves , hard rails or lack of on the road side, not to mention the type and quality of stops along the way. Arguing the best road is like arguing the best food or meal.

Good news is there are plenty of awesome rides with nice pavement all over the world.

I know personally if I am looking for a road to hit, the views, and it's popularity, are far less important than smooth clean pavement, and a clear slow poke free ride. Easier to pass with a bike ,but riskier than in a cage but nothing is worse than not being able to set and keep a pace and rhythm, for running up on someone

I predict it's just a matter of time before "the authorities" stop the fun, games, stupidity, and incompetent riding there permanently through some kind of drastic action. Speed traps and swarming it with "prowl cars" have proven to not work. Folks just don't get it that the place is where a lot of people get hurt or die. Crossing the center line is not respected and that is the worst place I know of to not respect that. Just proves you can't fix stupid. It's getting hard to be positive about the place. So many other great roads to ride in the area that go unnoticed. I hope they stay unnoticed. ; )

I dunno, that's alot of $$$ for the local community to risk losing for an area that otherwise would never even see that amount of visits. Not just tourism dollars, but ticket revenue as well.

I don't see anything changing anytime soon, money talks.

I hope it stays the same as well. I'd hate to see that crowd move north, to say VA-16. As much as those local communities would love the attention

Nice ride but not a place to get stupid (or anyplace else). Armco railing is a rider killer. It's gotten a lot of people tangled up on The Cherohala Skyway.

Here is a nice little run I used to make all the time in my younger years. Didn't think anything of it until I read that alot of people come with bikes and supercars to ride this and other area roads headed up and down the east coast.

    Shared route
From rt 55 craigsville, wv to route 20 summersville, wv via WV-20 S and WV-39 W.

    1 hr 15 min (46*mi)
1 hr 15 min in current traffic

    1. Head south on WV-20 S/WV-55 E/Craigsville Rd toward Wright
    2. Turn right onto WV-20 S
    3. Continue onto WV-39 W
    4. Turn right onto Broad St
    5. Turn left onto Main St
    6. Turn right onto WV-39 W/Turnpike Rd
    7. Turn right onto Co Rte 19/21
    8. Merge onto Co Rte 19/21
    9. Turn left to stay on Co Rte 19/21
    10. Turn right
    11. Keep left
    12. Continue onto Co Rte 19/21
    13. Turn left onto Co Rte 20/1/Nicholas Rd
    14. Arrive at location: route 20 summersville, wv

For the best route in current traffic visit https://goo.gl/maps/HgpFps2YEhx

Sorry couldn't get it to post right.
    But
    Route 55
    Route 41 IIRC
    Route 20
All in and around craigsville / summersville and richwood WV . Are some nice curvy fun to drive roads that one should explore if traveling through WV on RT19 or even on I-79 it's only a small detour.

The dragon is 1000x better. No one should bother with that road you posted, they should still go to deal's gap. That sign is photoshopped. Yep.

140 Miles is off center on that sign. Makes me question how legit it is.

    Where is this??
