So the 93 has been laid up over winter, it barely got any use last year apart from being taken to HM Racing outside London for the carbs to be tuned to the Sebring left exit. It now puts out approx 98bhp at the rear wheel, which I was astounded with, it really does fly when you get on the throttle

I've also since added a 94-97 front wheel to freshen up the front end and have a floating disc, I intend to buy/create brackets to install some Brembo calipers from a Ducati 900ss/Monster.

The other plan is to look at building an alloy subframe as that steel effort weight a goddam tonne. I might strip the bike down to bare bones towards the end of this season and get the frame, swingarm and all other grey bits powder coated black. Anything else anyone can think of that would finish it off nicely?

Here's how it's standing as of last weekend.

That's pretty freaaking sweet there. always thought Honda Goofed up by not keeping the VFR white in 94. Would you have another photo from the rear. looking to see what off set that left side exhaust has. ;)

I assume you're talking about the shock conversion? Not interested tbh (unless you mean something else?), I have Maxton revalved front forks so I'll be getting a Hyperpro fully adjustable unit soon enough :)

Great looking bike, anyone know what Honda's rationale for putting the exhaust on the right on the newer bikes? I hate loosening the pipe/muffler to remove the rear wheel. To me it looks like a 50/50 choice. Much cleaner looking right side.

I don't think it's a mess on the left tbh, the pipe's unobtrusive, angled perfectly to run the line of the rear panels...so on and so forth :)

Well, you're going to hate this, but if you're putting the 93 on a diet, the wheels are heavy. The 5th gen 5 spoke is considerably lighter in the rear. Even though you've had the front rebuilt/tuned, if you switch to the RC51 forks and triples, it will be so much more responsive. As a matter of fact, the entire RC51 SP1 front end would be a huge improvement in response and tracking and braking. But it will be expensive and not fun to convert. And if you're just club racing, maybe not worth it.

On the subframe, you could ditch the whole thing and tail. Build a simple aluminum trellis and use a one piece unit from Airtech and a racing seat pad.

    I do so miss mine.

awe... you might look up Mohawk here, he's in your neck of the woods, all though he has a 5th gen, he has lots of experience getting VFRs lighter, just saying. VFRs are a bit expensive to tinker with here and there. I've thought about Al or Ti sub frame, but the $$$$$$$ E gads when there's better bikes for actually getting it down. I like VFRs for what they are in a riding platform, just wish they had like 40+ lbs off em, and another 20+ Hp. its good though, still a great bike.

Well, Miguel (think he might be on here) sold me these and he put an SP front end on. He said other than the looks and brakes, there's nothing in the handling.

In terms of losing weight, not bothered too much about the wheels as I love the 8 spoker too much to want to lose it, the subframe I could fab up with a friend as he's a welder :)

It lifts the front wheel in first now, nothing lightened on it at all. Couldn't be happier! Apartfromifithadasuperchargerofcouse.
