The VFR1200 is no longer on Honda's website in the USA

    This bums be out so very much. I knew that it would happen. I've been dreading the day.

    It just didn't sell well enough. Not enough people "got it".

    Does anyone have an educated guess as to how long the seventh gen will be supported?

    In Canada in 2016 the sales brochures listed the VFR800
    And in 2017 it is not listed
    I just checked and the VFR1200 is not listed for 2017
    We do have the VFR1200X for 2017

    I was at the Honda display in Daytona this weekend and there were NO VFRs there, either 1200 or 800. The RCV213 was the only V4 sport bike on display. Just a little out of my price range.     I'm seriously considering a VFR1200 because I love the look of the bike and the technology. However, I do have some cause for concern which has made me hesitant. I've noticed that there are currently quite few Gen 7s out there in the used marketplace with very low pricing. Some of them have upgrades installed in what seems to have been a failed attempt to make them more comfortable to ride. What indicates to me that the attempt was unsuccessful is the extremely low mileage on the clock. In some cases just a very few thousand miles.
    I get it that there is no one size fits all when it comes to ergonomics because both of my bikes have been heavily Farkled in order to suit my particular preference.
    At the end of this year I'm going to making some big changes in my life and there's a strong possibility that I'll divest myself of the ST1300 and go to a Gen 7. I haven't actually rode one yet, so I'm hoping that it'll work for me, or will do eventually after a bit of modification.

    Excellent bikes you cant go wrong if you want one of the best driving bikes I have experienced. Problem for most is that its not a sport bike and its not a touring bike. People get hooked on specs weight hp ect. I love mine but have had up for sale on and off but I do that with all my bikes as I love to try everything out. Currently pulled mine from sale and may just keep due to the fact they are so undervalued not to mention no new ones are being made. This Honda strikes me like my long sold Honda NT650 HAWK , at one point you could not pay people to take them and over the years they have become so beloved that the prices spiked over their true value keeping me from ever picking up another. Sold a low mile perfect example in 98 for $1200 if I recall correctly. Go pick one up you really cant go wrong if you want a stellar driver with amazing roll on speeds. Biggest problem I noticed with mine especially after lubing the rear linkages are that the rear feels soft and the front stiff "170lbs rider". Seriously though if its a keeper for you those are easy fixes and the rear might be fine with a softer front end to me. I recall spotting an Ohlins rear and front cartridge kit for the front with weight specified springs for not too bad price.

    One last thing I forgot:
    It's a Shaft Drive and many people cant make the switch from chain drive to shaft. I can say I was a little put off by shaft drive much the same as the Belt on my Buell 1125CR but its a bigger switch. One thing I learned from the Buell Belt is it's a pleasure to not have to clean and oil a chain all the time. But the shaft no matter how well designed still has a cretin quirk unlike belt/chain. If you have driven a shaftie you will know what I mean.

    I'm not sure I follow your opinions on shaft Vs Chain/belt drive.
    I've had many chain drive bikes, most recently a vfr750 and a triumph tiger 800, I now have a vfr1200f and honestly I only notice a very subtle difference in drivetrain lash.
    I certainly don't miss lubing and cleaning chains.
    Please explain why people "can't" make the switch from chain to shaft.
    Note: I do ride aggressively compared to some.

    More unwilling from a sport bike slant:

    a: No option to change gearing for sport minded riders. "Belt drive also has this issue"
    b: Drive Shaft lash is quite different than properly maintained chain "Belt is even better than chain"
    c: Drive Shaft hop or Squat of the rear "Yes it's there in the VFR1200F" I have actually had the rear wheel hop off the road where you would normally get the front up in the torque on a chain drive .

    Don't get me wrong I love the bike but accept what it is and learned to have a respect for this quirk. On a plus for the bike this tends keep the front on hard sprint to top speed unlike any chain / belt.

    Experience, Background, and Perspectives vary this is just mine.

    I actually think it's a shame they quit making the bike completely. I cant imagine wanting the VFR1200X unless you are very large and tall.

    There are quotation marks around the phrase but yes, you're right. Nothing about the bike appeals to me and apparently most people. I don't think Honda "got it" either. What a huge failure of a new product design and failure. If Honda would listen to it's customers, they couldn't manufacture VFR's fast enough.....
