So I am due for a new helmet, and was really loving the fit of the GT Air. One question I have with the internal tinted visor is when the internal visor is down and you are riding does your field of view and peripheral vision have any issues with the unshaded portion towards the bottom? It seems to me (who has never had internal shield) that if I have it flipped down it may throw of your "picture" out the helmet. Not sure if I make myself clear but just seems like if something I'm viewing passes through my field of view and goes from tinted to not tinted the contrast change might throw you off thinking something is closer than it appears.

    Any feedback from anyone here?

I've been riding with my GT Air Wanderer for over 2 years, and I have not had any optics issues with the internal visor. In fact, once you start using it, you'll wonder why this isn't a standard feature in all helmets. I also have an Arai Signet X, but the Shoei GT Air is noticeably quieter.

Two of my helmets have the internal sun visor, one being my GT-Air and I don't have any issues with either. Although the GT-Air doesn't flow as much air as the RF-1100 I had, I like it better due the sun visor and less noise it makes. I'm on my second GT-Air as when I had my low slide earlier this year, my other one had touched the pavement, so the insurance got me a replacement. Shoei helmets seem to fit me just right so they are the first helmet I gravitate to.

BTW, check out www.motorcyclegear.com, I got a great price on mine there. Online they have a "call for best price" and for the model I got I was really happy with the cost. Here is the model I bought, the "Decade".

I've had my GT Air for several months. Fit, finish, quality of materials is first rate. Like the other poster said, once you start using the drop down visor, you wonder why all helmets don't have one. As an example I wear sunglasses everyday, all day. I never don't have them. The visor eliminates the need for me to try to wear sunglasses riding, and introduces no visual distortion at all. My next helmet will have a visor, I like it that much.

As for quiet ... I get pronounced whistling out of the top vent when open. I'd say the GT Air is about average in terms of quiet compared to other newer helmets. But your mileage my vary.

I am totally happy with the GT-Air I bought.

My feedback is basically the same a Mike's. I don't see buying another helmet without integrated sun visor. The space for adding intercom is great too, and the liner is easy to remove for the installation.

OOTV has my exact helmet; it is a lovely thing, and very quiet, too. Internal visor is excellent, no restrictions to worry about.

I'm also enjoying my gt-air. I really like the sun visor, but for super bright sunny days, it wasn't quite dark enough. So I doubled up with a mirror tint exterior/light smoke outer shield, had to order from a Japan store but it was worth it to me. I carry the clear in the sidecase for night riding.

The only draw back of the internal visor not going down all they way is that sometimes with the sun overhead or behind you can catch a glare from the gauges of the bike, thankfully it's intermittent and in my case the outer shield tint helps. I've never found the crossover from internal visor to only outer visor distracting.

Good to know Iridium CNS-1 visors are now available now for the GT-AIR, when I bought my Shoei NXR Helmet end of 2014 I really wanted the GT-AIr but was told Iridium visors were unavailable for the GT-AIR. When touring in Summer I much prefer Iridium visors as find them better for glare in bright sunshine and contrast through winding passes with alternating tree shaded and open bright sunny Vs light or dark tint but for commute to work would be happy with the stock clear with flip down tint for easy day night riding.

Same here. I got no problems with GT Air Wanderer. It is really worth the cost.

I can add that the padding was definitely tight when new, but is fitting well to my head now, so the helmet is snug and comfortable.

After a 1200 mile trip over Memorial Day to northwest Wisconsin, I now have a pretty minor downside to the GT-Air. Northwest WI got a lot of rain in the early spring so the bugs are out in full force, occasionally, a bug will come in the vents. It usually is dead from impact, but I've seen them come in the chin vent and pop up in front of my face. After that it seems to fall out the bottom. More rare, I did have one come in the top vent and fall onto my head which you can really feel if he manages to survive and starts crawling around. Luckily, this seems to happen more with the smaller gnat type bugs, not the larger bee sized insects.

OH YEAH, TESTIFY! I had this happen three times...with bees! Twice the bee didn't make it but one time, one did! I was on a twisty road in Malibu and noticed the bee moving around and I thought it was just movement from the air flowing through the vent, that was until it moved to the side and was trying to get out. I had to negotiate a few curves until I had a place I could safely pull over. I opened the visor but it didn't quite get that he had an out, so I slowly undid my helmet strap and yanked my helmet off real quick. I didn't see where he went but my riding partner said he saw it fly away.

I head down to Burlington Washington this Tuesday to pick up mine so will ride with it for a while and post up how I feel about the new lid. I am expecting to find it to not just to be satisfactory, but excellent. My present X-Twelve has served me well.

I hope you like it Randy, I like mine. I've had it for a few years now (whenever they came out). My next helmet, however, will most likely be a modular. I really want to lessen the amount I take my helmet on and off on long trips (hurts the ears). Being able to flip it up helps with drinking, eating, seeing my beautiful smile, etc... without having to take my helmet off.

I'd like to throw it out, you should fly a little more south, it's been awhile. But then, Seattle ain't no fun, so X that, ;) the x12 to this day is a great helmet, you can get new pads and all from Shoei "if"

I have replaced the innerds a couple years back and it fit like new again. It still fits good. But the visor bead has just fallen apart. I ordered a new bead which RobVG helped be with getting. Long story involving how we abbreviate British Columbia on our credit cards. I went to replace the bead but quickly realized it may be more than I was prepared to tackle which also may have left me without a lid when I was not ready to replace. Now that I will be getting the new lid, I will have a go at replacing that bead.

In any event. My X-Twelve is 6 or 7 years old now. Due for replacement especially what elements I put that poor bitch thorough.

So now that I have gotten my GT Air and used it for several months, I have to say, I do like it. I like the internal drop down smoked visor. I like the fit and feel.
    BUT!

The GT air does not come close to being as light as the X-Twelve. It has not as much ventilation as the X-12 and it is no more quiet than the X twelve, which was not that quiet either.

If the X-Twelve had the inside drop down visor, it would be my choice by far. Even if I were to go out and get another lid tomorrow, and the X-Twelve was still available, that would be my choice over the GT Air.

Yeah, the "Air" part of the name is kind of a misnomer but have to say I have gotten use to it.
