So it goes like this. I bought the Staintune 6 months before I got the 8th gen, knowing I love their exhaust note (our 5th gen sing with them,) and that I planned to get an 8th gen at "some stage" in the future. When we did get our 8ths, I didn't expect to enjoy the peace and quiet of the stock exhaust as much as I did. It's really relaxing to ride. That fact alone hasn't made me rush to put it on.

I will. Maybe even this weekend. I just haven't felt rushed to do it /shrug

While it's a high-mount, it's not as "nice" as the 5th gen offering. Also has a taper to it. The exhaust note will have to sell me on it as visually it's just "ok."

Wow, I didn't know/realize that there was a taper! I'm not too crazy about that, are they all like that? I really like the exposed rear wheel though! Does the Staintune allow rear wheel removal without messing with the exhaust?

Now, that's a superb looking thing. Really finishes off the 8th Gen's fine looks.

My 5th gen. with a Supertrapp makes awesome noises. I moved the bars for comfort. That's it. No de-linking (I have no Moto-GP fantasies about my 480 lb. bike), and no messing with intake. I did add a progressive throttle tube, which helped smooth out low speed throttle roll-on, though.

I love that you can now see the rear wheel. Very nice!

I would prefer a non-tapered design, however, as others have stated, I love seeing the rear wheel. Purdy!

I did it for the noise. Same as the exhaust. Vtec is already plenty smooth. Bike is plenty fast. I love the grumble. It actually helped me decide to not get an electric bike.

I think I lost the flow of this thread when a hairy black spider ran across my keyboard and dove into my lap. Swat,Swat! Ow! Dang that hurt!
Is removing the PAIR good for an 8th Gen?

Previously PAIR caused problems at low speeds as the air injection into the exhaust would affect the o2 sensor readings. I'm not sure if that's still the case. They certainly aren't a power robber, but it is a lot of piping, and some weight. I ripped the system off my 80s cruiser.

To answer this, one must know:

    a. Do 8th gens even have Pair valves
    b. Do 8th gens even have o2 sensors and if so, how does their operation compare to the narrow band sensors of the 5th/6th gen?

According the service manual the answer to both a and b is yes and yes.

.....................a classic example of this is a airbox mod for a Yamaha R1 touted as ''lvans airbox mod'' as in lvan of lvans jets................................well considering how many people swear by it its plausible, that is until you speak to lvan himself who will tell you its bollocks, it was in this instance a evolutionary dead end they pursued and not to mod a R1 airbox with his jets.

.....................A classic example of this is an airbox mod for a Honda crf450x. This is an actual service bulletin direct from Honda, showing you how to modify your airbox for closed course competition. Every bike is different. Some bikes respond well to opening up the airbox for greater flow and then tuning the fuel jets or mapping to match. Some bikes perform best when the airbox is left stock or only lightly modified. The VFR800 doesn't do much when the box is modified, i.e. the snorkel and flapper is removed, as all the tuning is in the velocity stacks, the snorkel/flapper is for noise suppression only....

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but the engineer's do what the do for Gass mileage and emissions not for performance so if you want better performance out of your bike you will need more fuel and air the purpose of a turbo or supercharger is to force more air into the engine to increase horsepower

The whole system (intake, combustion, and exhaust) are designed to work together. Making changes to one part of a system (any system whether it's an engine or a business process) requires evaluating the change's effects on other parts of the system and measurements of results, as opposed to assumptions. A hypothesis is great but it must be tested.

Performance sells bikes, not mileage or emissions. The design must balance all three. We used to think a '70s corvette was amazing shit. But they don't measure up to the modern machine. And a modern sports car complies with emissions. Is someone going to rip the intake off a modern 'vette and assume it's better than stock?

Its been proven a few times already, what adds power and what doesn't. These rambling threads written by people that think they know everything, but take their bike to the dealer for an oil change, are a huge waste of bandwidth...
