Listening/watching several randomly selected songs by The Cars tonight on YT. I'm a bit surprised to discover that the late Benjamin Orr was arguably a better singer than Ric Ocasek. (Apparently I'm not alone in this discovery as I found an entire article on the subject LOL: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/benjamin-orr-cars-songs/ )
I was a casual fan of theirs back in the day but had never seen them play live and just assumed Ric Ocasek was the "main" singer since he was featured in their MTV vids and married the supermodel Paulina. But from watching several of their performances it's clear that Benjamin Orr was the lead singer on just as many (if not more) of their best songs as Ocasek.

"Here come ol flattop" Ya think John Lennon was watching that Kinescope? Notice that Chuck was lip synching with just enough lag to let ya know it. Or he was playing with "Milo" the invisible drummer.

Those 50's TV gigs were not famous for paying the up and comers. Berry had years of experience in blues clubs. Any even truncated bio will show Berry got paid in cash before going on stage.

If published dates are correct, Chuck Berry at the time of this one filmed or Kinescope recording was 30 years old. This is important because in 1961 he was 35 and not to be trusted.

I read that Joe is really Joe Cocker and they are just playing his old stuff at 45.rpm.

I sometimes wish some of the relatively "new" blues dudes would play in several registers. Some get hung up on those last 5-6 frets and stay there. Reference some of the old time acoustic and electric players especially playing 12 bar blues. Just a couple: Some rare stuff by Chuck Berry before he was Chuck Berry and that Morganfield dude..

Lee Hazelwood's "Trouble is a Lonesome Town Album". Love those old country ballads.
