I think I would like it better if they used a more modern engine. IMO, should be getting way more output out of 1.6 liters...

For example - Honda B16B engine from TWENTY years ago:

    B16B (Type R)
    • Found in:
      • 1997–2000 Civic Type R
        • Displacement: 1,595 cc (97.3 cu in)
        • Compression: 10.8:1
        • Bore: 81 mm (3.2 in)
        • Stroke: 77.4 mm (3.0 in)
        • Rod/Stroke ratio: 1.85:1
        • Rod Length: 142.42 mm (5.6 in)
        • Power: 185 hp (138 kW) @ 8200 rpm & 118 lb·ft (160 N·m)
        • Redline: 8400 rpm
        • Rev-limit: 9000 rpm

The R version does make more, 180 hp and 127 torque. I think they are putting the detuned motor in the naked bike. I got to flog a R model for a couple of hours, it is a beast. Supposedly that motor can be easily tuned to well over 200hp. And totally streetatable with nice manners.

3rd gear power wheelies are just a twist of the wrist away.

Bike is designed and manufactured in the the good ole USA! If they used a imported engine, it would be just another bike that would disappear. Apparently the are selling alot of engines for other uses.

180 hp from a 1.6 might not sound amazing by today's standards, especially in a performance bike, in comparison to something more in it's class like the 200 crank hp VMax, but keep in mind we are talking OHV vs DOHC engines here. The VMAX's engine, with it's 4 overhead camshafts, is going to be much heavier/larger and complex than the Motus' simple OHV engine.

The Motus is only pushing 565 pounds vs the VMax's 694 pounds (owing somewhat to this OHV vs DOHC advantage). This is the motorcycle equivalent to the Chevy LS vs Ford Coyote battle. Power per cc might not be the Motus's strong suit, but power and torque per pound plus a great torque curve, is where the Motus "Baby Block" will truly shine.
