Considering DLinking my Gen 5,anybody try the HELLBRAKE Delink kit sold on E-Bay from the UK? Looks like 3 braided lines banjos washers and some kind of bracket. Hell looks to me like delinking may be simple, correct me if im wrong.
Go the whole hog and get different fork lowers so you can use decent calipers. VTR fork lowers and SP2 or CBR954/600 calipers, CBR600 master for the front and CBR250RR rear master with single line and caliper drilled internally to use all three pistons. It’s the ducks guts mate.
Didn't do the de-link but did get the HEL line kits for both my 5 and 6 Gens and the lines are top notch IMO. However, as OZ VFR suggests, if going to the trouble of de-linking the brakes, might as well improve them and possibly get a better suspension while you're at it!
As long as it's not a D-Link brand router, you're fine... Geek humor. Heh. I agree with above. If you are going to de-link, you should consider a front end swap. If you're out-riding the linked brakes, you're out-riding the suspension, too.
Dont think Ill D-link just yet.Just serviced forks with Race Tec springs, bushings, seals and 10wt oil. Considering sending shock to DMR for rebuild or just getting a custom shock replacement.
I guess many of us will adapt our motorbikes slightly by adding things like heated grips, taller screens etc, to best suit our needs. However there comes a point where it is probably sensible to step back and ask if it makes economic sense to keep spending more and more money making major changes to try and convert a veteran sport touring bike into a more sport oriented bike. Your shopping list of changes suggests that the 5th Gen is not ideally suited to your needs. So if you really are looking for a more sporty focused motorbike your best bet is probably to leave the 5th gen unmolested to get the best trade in value to replace it with a Fireblade, Gixxer or similar. No matter how much you love your 5th Gen there are now plenty of excellent Sport bikes to choose from which might give you a de-linked ride with insane performance. Especially if you look at prices of older models, at this time of the year, there are often some very good value used models available. Indeed coming up to Christmas many dealers are desperate for sales, so it could be a great time to go window shopping, and maybe even bag a bargain on a new or used bike . Have fun . SkiMad
Thanks for the insight, Seeing that i an more towards the Sport Touring side of street riding and the VFR More than fills my performance requirements short of a few tweeks I believe ill keep her for a while until the timing and deal prevents itself, FJR ,ST or something of that sort without linked brakes. i have noticed thru the years of riding that a competent rider on a sport touring ride can ride the pace of your average hyper bike pilot on pacific northwest roads with ease. and seeing that a 600 mile is often an option i would prefer at this point in life some comfort. Ride Fast take Chances.
I had thought about doing the brakes, front end, shock etc to occasionally do some track day sessions. I know I would get into trouble very quickly with linked brakes and the stock suspension. Instead I just ride her the way she is, set up as best as stock can be and have fun. The money I saved went into new slicks, brake pads and track days for the CBR 1K.
Rode with a guy who could out-ride the kids (anyone under 40) in the twisties on a canary yellow Gold Wing. A very competent rider ... ACE
There was a guy here on VFRW that I rode with a few times in CO. He outrode all the kids on their liter bikes with his 6gen. The bike is just fine
