What has this got to do with the dark side?

Off topic, this whole thread is.

    Go elsewhere, I must.

I asked about it out of the need for long trips.
3000 highway miles each way means a new set when I arrived... each way.

Oh do tell, tell us about some of the hair brained things you've done and let us be the judges if they are truly stupid.
At least give some examples to show that you've taken risks in your life.

Have you got sources that riders got hurt riding a car tire mounted on a motorcycles? please supply your sources.

Over 13 million miles have been ridden with car tires mounted on different motorcycles without problems.. that's only what people keep track on forums, likely plenty more that don't keep track.

I will apologize publicly for my harshness. My posts were pretty abrasive. I could have gotten my thoughts down in a nicer manner. For the record, I'm sorry for being a jerk. Lesson learned.

Well I can give some first hand experience. My neighbor put a car tire on his Boulevard. Did it just for the hell of it to see what people were claiming about the advantages. He has about 40 years of riding experience and at the time owned 14 bikes and has had countless through the years and tried about every hair brained idea out there. So he gave me the bike without giving his opinion, but he did say be very careful leaning over. Riding it was a thrill..... in a bad way. leaning and cornering took a while to master but I could do it rather smoothly. Not very confidence inspiring as it wiggled and squirmed a lot. Now to be honest I come from a more sport bike, track bike, cafe racing background and love to lean into the twisties for about 40 years on all sorts of bikes. This set up was down right just stupid, negates one of the joyous aspects of riding. If you rode on that edge long enough it might wear down to be a bit more tame but to hell with that! so many things could go wrong, wet, oil, leaves, emergency stop or maneuver... you are at a big disadvantage. And we need to be extra diligent while on 2 wheels.
My neighbor laughed when I told him that was the stupidest experiment he has tried to date. He agreed and slapped a moto tire on there.

OP there are a lot of good long distance motorcycle tire out there to choose from.

Lint. There are so very few people out there who will step back and look at themselves and make an objective opinion of one's self. Then on top of that, to admit they were off base and step up to the plate to acknowledge this, then apologize if the need is there. Are you sure you are not Canajun?

No such apology was necessary towards me but I do appreciate that you would do this. You are a gentleman. Hope that does not offend you.

I only hope I could do the same but then again, I am never wrong or out of line.

How much time did he spend balancing the car tire?

How many miles did you or him ride with car tire mounted on his bike?

How many miles do you consider a new tire needs for you to get used to its handling before you start pushing the limits?

I believe I got more than double the typical mileage for my VFR when i ran a set of Shinko tires. I didn't find the grip that much less than my typical tires. I believe you could squeak out a 6000 mi trip with them and still have a decent enough profile in comparison to a car tire.

I'm not sure if he balanced the tire but it did feel smooth. I rode it for a little over an hour, took me a good 15 min of turns to get use to it. It did feel squirmy and abrupt in transition. No way would I run it on any 2 wheeled bike, ever. Getting more miles out of a car tire to me is just silly. Maybe I'm silly for liking performance out of my bikes, to each his own. I like smooth linear power, smooth lean angles and great feedback on my brakes.

As far as pushing its limits.......... no way! I love lighting up a tire coming out of a corner and leaving a nice blackie but this thing would land you on your head. Did you ever run one on the front? If not why?

Front tire last longer than rear tire, front tire doesn't cost as much as rear tire...

My stable of bikes include bikes that I ride aggressively and casually, right tool for the right job.

Lol. “Right tool for the right job.” Hmmmmm would that be using a motorcycle tire on a motorcycle?
I was wondering what it feels like to countersteer with the square tire. Not how many miles you get out of it.

We are simply trying to discourage new riders from EVER considering this,..

Spend the extra $75 and get a proper motorcycle tire and choose .... LIFE

IMO, you're simply claiming things without any proof.

Have you got a source of any death claims with car tire usage on motorcycles?

Please share... if not, just BS.

I consider a motorcycle to be a tool; sport bike for sport type riding, dirt bike for off-road riding.

Try it out and find out for yourself, it's not that difficult.
If mileage from a tire is not your priority, then it can't be someone else's?
I don't speculate, criticize and say that's stupid on people trying things that I have zero experience, unlike some posters in this thread. I have experience with car tire usage on the rear wheel only, and I have no need to use a car tire in the front wheel if I feel that front tire change cost and interval are fine with my bikes and my riding.

I've only been riding little over 20 years, ridden plenty of squirrelly bikes with schetchy handling characteristics.. yet to die from any of them.
