I have had CHP moto officers pass me in the carpool lane when I was already riding over 75 in a 65. They don't care. I've passed multitudinous police cars while lane splitting. But, it's also legal here is the People's Republic of Kalifornia. One thing that is good about living in this crazy state.

Exactly why police officers are hated, when they abuse their authority.

I wonder if it's as rude as posting curse words in a public forum when someone disagrees with your opinion?

Not that I give two shits about you cursing, but I know many people who consider it pretty rude.

So. Just what percentage of the population do you think hate police officers. I really felt that emotion from those I served very, very rarely. I know they did not like getting ticketed by me but seldom did I run across someone who I felt hated me. I find I receive great respect from those here who I have actually met. I try to return that respect. Except to Reg. And Marrib. And Toecutter....well there really are many more.

So, according to the 1st part - 'ALL police officers are hated by EVERYONE' SMH.

2nd part begs the question - How do You KNOW that the CHP motor officers who passed Lint were abusing their authority? Which authority(ies) were being abused? What are the CHP's duties and responsibilities? What are the CHP's policies and procedures? Do You KNOW Where the CHP officers were headed or Why? What LE training and experience (and all necessary information about each specific instance/incident) do you have to be able accurately determine or conclude that an LEO was abusing his/her authority?

Let's put it a little more general - if someone, non-LE, just a "regular" driver/vehicle is speeding, how do You KNOW that he/she doesn't have a reasonable or legitimate reason for speeding? (which is why a couple of commonly asked questions are "do you know how fast you were going", "why were you speeding", "where are you going in such a hurry", ETC.)

Is there a question in your post?

Do you abuse your authority as an office sworn to protect and serve the public?

I'd say, likely 100% of the witness when they realize a police abuse their authority is likely to hate the police... wouldn't you? Few bad apples spoils the batch, right? Just like stupid squid bikers makes general public hate all motorcyclists.

I think hate may be a bit harsh, a big dislike in general may work. I try not to dislike them but 3 of the last 4 I have dealt with outright lied and screwed me over. 1 was actually pretty nice and didn't write me the ticket for speeding that I admittedly was doing, he only gave me a ticket for not having a current insurance slip with me (I do actually have insurance). That ticket would have been 4 points, a couple of hundred bucks and 3 years higher insurance payments. Like anything in life, there are good cops and bad cops, you just tend to hear about the bad ones more.
I have family members that serve as well as friends, they all seem nice to me but then again, they have never had me pulled over at the side of the road...
Back to the topic though, I am all for filtering, wish we could do it here in Ontario legally... As someone that gets stuck in traffic commuting daily I see that there is a time and a place to do it safely. Although it will take a while for the general public to be more understanding of it.

When I'm in my cage, I'm not bothered at all by bikers that filter up to red lights. I'm also generally not bothered by bikers who lane split when we're in motion. The only time it bothers me really is when they lane split in a reckless manner, e.g. full on acceleration at 10,000+ rpms when the cars they're splitting are accelerating normally, or flying through at 100+ mph when cars are cruising at 60 mph, etc.

I HATE, yes HATE, biker "mobs" and I generally dislike squids and other idiots on motorcycles BUT I'm intelligent enough to know, and I'd like to believe that the Average Person is also intelligent enough to know that not ALL motorcyclists are like them.

Yep, riding too fast between lanes like the guys at the 2:50 mark is not lane splitting - it's "lane splatting":Pound:

This is a fascinating thread. It's making me feel I should ask.....I once (more than once) on my bike went over 90 when the posted speed limit was 65.
If I should ban myself, let me know......

Depending on the traffic pattern when you're traveling at 95 mph.. zero traffic with miles of visibility and road conditions were good, I don't see any problem..
In bumper-to-bumper traffic.. not so much.

You just have to pick the right time and place to lane split, or speed.
I prefer the minimal traffic back roads.
Some back roads are just too popular with squids, and cops.
I only go there if I have a weekday chance to ride.

Been splitting lanes since 84 here in CA, like today traffic is at pretty close to a standstill and I’m having people moving over all over the place. If your not doin Mach 2 and not swerving all over the place splitting lanes, people don’t get pissed, and all ways give them a wave.
Rather split lanes then a chance of getting rear ended by some asshat on there phone.
We will see how this pans out in CO when I’m there for good with a large majority of motorists packin.
On the way home I take a single lane exchange that’s a diamond lane from the N 170 to the N 5, always packed at a standstill, so I usually ride the right side shoulder inside the white line, always wondered if it was cool with the popo, well doin it yesterday I passed a CHP.
Was expecting him to turn on up his sirens and lights and chase me on the shoulder as well, nothing.
