Redding never really made the next step after not winning the moto2 title...then he ended up on junk customer Honda's that nobody could ride at a competitive pace....now he's being shown the door at Aprilia, just like Sam lowes before him. Hello Moto2, BSB, or WSBK. If he does go back to moto2, he won't last long if he has any type of year like Lowes is having.....On the subject of Brits, Bradley Smith is being kicked to the curb as well. Not a great year for the British contingent. Cal left carrying the flag now. USA in the same boat.....

Yeah I don’t think Scott ever really had a fair chance. He wasn’t going anywhere on that bike. The Brits have had a rough time of it but they still have a lot of people racing. The only Americans are in world superbike PJ Jacobsen and Gagne and they’re not doing that great.

Exactly, it's a shame for both countries and their fans.

It’s a Dorna conspiracy, to get rid of the English speaking countries from racing! LOL!

In all honesty I have to wonder if there will be any more Americans in MotoGP? Not looking like it at the moment. Is it too early to tell if MotoAmerica will have any impact on getting more Americans interested in motorcycle racing? That is one their goals isn’t it? Or is America left with electronic gadget wielding youth who don’t know what it’s like being on a bike physically only virtually? At least that’s how things appear to be.

I remember growing up and seeing my neighbors on their mini-bike and Honda Trail50 and thinking. “I wanna ride one of those!” And actually knowing and being friends with my neighbors, I got to ride theirs and then eventually we all grew up owning and riding bigger bikes. Not sure about my old neighbors, as we all moved to different parts of the country but I know that riding bug is still in my blood! It would be great to see more Americans in racing again, if not for patriotic reasons but to see a more diverse mixture of nationalities in racing.

I think both PJ and Jake scored points in yesterdays WSBK race.
Seeing Alex Lowes finally win his first WSBK race was cool, he almost lost it during the post press interview. He had a great time in BSB and has been paying his dues in WSBK getting the Yahama's back up to speed. Vadermark rode a great race too. Have not read about it yet but it looked like Sykes caused Rea to crash. Looked like a race incident only. Race 1 was a Rea run away but there were some great battles behind him. Have not watched the Super Sport races yet.

I was able to catch up last night and this morning on WSBK Race 1 and 2 but haven't had the opportunity to watch the other races tey either. Not sure what happened to the two Kawi boys but their Race 2 was pretty bad. Although they showed clips of the Rae/Sykes incident, it wasn't too clear on what actually happened, other than to be declared a racing incident.

Not sure what's up with Chaz, but the Yamaha boys have definitely stepped up their game!

Watched the second super sport race, the last lap was insane. Only two points between the German and Frenchman now.

I expect America will keep it's interest in motocross. It's the nascar of motorcycles.
But, given our tendencies for ethnocentricity as a nation, motogp will likely be popular to a comparable number that like football, you know the football that the rest of the world plays, not the one we play with our hands.
Even our news is different during the Olympics, it's tailored to tell us how the Americans are doing more than tell us who won. :)

    On a related note...

    https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/american-equivalent-to-valentino-rossi?CMPID=ene061218#page-3

And to answer the question in the article, I can't think of anyone in sports.

Hmm, an American athlete known worldwide and liked as well as Rossi.

Since basketball isn't that popular everywhere that rules out LeBron or MJ.
American football is on the decline and there just isn't anyone universally liked.

Maybe baseball? That has a fair following worldwide. Universally liked...hmm, nope.

Football football, well, no Americans are really know for it. I'd say Messi or Reynaldo, but they aren't American, and I doubt most Americans have heard of them.

    I give up.

Well, that was a waste of time. The Dani Pedrosa press conference to announce his intentions turned out to be a “I can’t say at this time...”. Apparently what he thought was going to happen, didn’t happen and now there appears to be “more options”. He wouldn’t say if he was going to retire, continue racing or something else related to MotoGP/racing.

Although Trump is well known around the world, he is in no way the celebrated celebrity that Rossi is. That was the context.
