    Good day.

As the coils / wires on my pending restoration are 30+yrs old thought it wouldn't hurt to upgrade them as part of the restore.

Has anyone done this upgrade? What components did you use? Taylor wires? Dyna ignition coils?

    Would like input / suggestions.

    Thank you

I have replaced the wires and caps on a couple. High quality copper core (can't remember what brand, I got a bunch thru one of our distributors years ago) and NGK caps. The outer diameter was slightly smaller than stock, but the coil held it just fine and I applied a little black silicone to seal it up. The Honda coils are very resilient, I have never had one fail on any of my VF/VFRs in over 30 years. One of my parts VF750 has a set of Accel on it.

Why ? age isn't an issue.

Honda gave you top quality wires and coils, and on my 4 '86/'87's they're still fine after all this time.

One of my coils developed a deep crack...The accel coils also give it a definate "pep" .... not more horsepower but a better pick up.

Understand the "if it ain't broke why fix it " thought process--BUT--does that mean we can't IMPROVE what is already there?

I have a set of Taylor wires as spares from another project and also Dyna coils. Figuring that technology has advance quite a bit since 1986 and a change could result in a nice upgrade with better spark and combustion could be an improvement.
On my 1980 Honda CBX the upgrade to Dyna coils/wires makes for easier starts and smoother running by "seat of the pants" dyno and thinking the same might be a benefit for the VFR.

    Thank you for the input.

If you do go to hotter coils open the plug gap slightly larger from stock settings.
