    Hey y'all,

I am almost done restoring this beautiful bike. Recently rebuilt the carbs, changed all filters, new fuel lines, and the works.

It seems that my fuel pump is dead. I did all the testing I could to make sure it wasn't the relay, and its the pump. Previous owner never changed the aftermarket filter, which was clogged and destroyed the pump.

I saw a couple of links here in the forums about pumps, but nothing that I could still access (super old links - dead).

I am looking to find more specifications on the OEM pump and if I can find a generic equivalent. The ebay market only has a couple of those OEM pumps but they don't look like they will last.

    Thanks in advanced!

They're cheap Chinese garbage and fail quickly.

aftermarket or generic pumps are usually larger, hard to fit. you should remove the black cap to inspect contacts, cleaning if necessary. 3 p.s.i. is standard.

the same-as OEM pump was fitted on dozens of Japanese bikes of all manufactures over many years, so finding a used replacement is usually easy.

test pump by measuring resistance across the pump leads: continuity means pump has potential to work, while non-continuity means pump is shot.

one way to sometimes get a pump working is to free up the central armature by pulling up with pliers on its end a couple times, making sure not to damage contacts.

Thanks, I'll take a second look at the pump. I know the pump used to work, but the whole bike sat in a garage for two years without being used.

Could it be that it is just stuck? The fuel filter was gunked up bad. Fuel didn't even trickle through, and when it was replaced the new filter allowed a decent amount of flow (look at photo)

I found this generic one on Amazon (link)

I type the pump model number on Ebay, and a bunch appear. Most from the 93 and above models. Those should work just fine right?

Again, thank you for the help.

Thank squirrelman, I was able to get the pump working. Cleaned it up and it runs.

Now the issue is that the relay won't start up, and after reinstalling it and testing, the relay is dead.

I bypassed the relay, and the motorcycle starts!

There are other issues, but I will have to make a new thread.
